LOTR: Battle report of a small skirmish
« on: 08 May 2010, 08:24:04 AM »
Hey all,

I've posted a battle report of a small skirmish on my blog. We played today, for the first time in a LONG time. just something quick and fun, a chance to roll dice, and fodder for motivation.

Thanks for sharing. This is exactly how I like to play LotR. No big battles but small skirmishes. Always important are named characters. Even though they might technically only be captains in the Gondorian army they are much more interesting when given a name - especially when the names sound reaonably tolkienish. Again thanks and play/post some more...  :)

That's exactly how LOTR is supposed to be played!! At a reasonable size like this its a fast, snappy little system. The way the tournament rules make you play is ridiculous. Far more models than the system was intended to handle. It really can make the game bog down badly (especially if you're having one of those days where you can't roll anything but a '1')!  ;)

Reading this has really made me want to break out my Numenoreans ("Newfenoreans" chuckle-chuckle) again!

-sigh- I do so miss playing this game... :'(

Correct, it was designed as a coffee table game... which is what I love about it!

War of the Ring is a good expansion though. Still quick and easy to play.

Legions of Middle Earth wasn't too bad either :) The few games I have played weren't too arduous.
