Not as bad as I expected, I think he seems to fit the REH description closer than Arnold did.

I don't get the criticism from some chumps there, but then again - that's internet for you. It's little to no surprise that digital photos taken backstage looks cheap and Xena-esque. =)

I think he looks a bit young and too "handsome"... but impossible to judge from pictures of him out of character. Bring on the trailers! Love the pics from the Bulgaria set.

I agree completely. You can't make a proper judgement from these pictures, and Momoa might turn out to be alright. I'll wait for the trailer too.

If the poster is right that the movie is concentrating on Conan's younger days, well, maybe he'll grow into the character that people expect him to be over the course of a couple of movies. A broken nose here, scar there,  whatever. Be interesting to see the making of a badass.

I think it works.

Have to see. If he plays it naturally, then fine. If he's over-heroic and all that nonsense, then it'll be annoying. Better than I thought, I have to admit.

Difficult to judge because he is smiling... and I doubt he will be doing much of that as Conan. Yet I am disturbed by the size of his chin.

Arnold is Conan for me and always will be.Some people just fit the part so well that it's better left alone i.e.

Conan-Arnold
Napoleon-Steiger
Indiana Jones-Ford
Spartacus-Douglas
Etc.

Why not some new hero's that are not stamped in gold yet like...John Carter of Mars for example.Just in general and not the actor in question.

Same thought here. He looks much more like a Robert E. Howard character to me than Arnold ever did. Proof is in the pudding, of course.

But isn't conan supposed to be of some sort of "semi-irish" origin?

Whyever not?  Howard's Conan had a real zest for life (totally unlike the miserable Nietzchean lump John Milius inflicted on us via Arnie).
Back from the dead, almost.

Well, that's hard to say because we are privy to what Conan is thinking in the books and not in the movie.Conan in the movie could have been just as humorous and sardonic as in the books in his thoughts, but we only saw what was spoken and even then he had his moments. ;)

...I agree: Arnie is Conan. Anybody else will look strage in the role to me.

The set-photos look indeed cheap, perhaps the film will be better...

Okay, so Germans like Arnie as Conan. Everyone else doesn't.  ;D

I thought you guys associated the Austrian accent with farmers? Same way we associate the West Country (England) accent with Farmers in England.  ;D

Farmer conan? Not for me.  :)

When I think of Conan I think of Frazetta and Arnold. They are the two men that set the image of Conan for me, more so than REH. This guy just doesn't have the physique to do the role justice.

No. Definitely not. Generic fantasy yes, probably great as a film destined for one run then DVD (although having said that they all are now!).
