chaos in cairo - custom eternal slaves
« on: 24 May 2010, 01:08:13 PM »
I'm on the process to create my two warbands for chaos in cairo.
When looking for the eternal slaves miniatures i didn't find anything matching the decaying feeling I was looking for.

Alll the mummies i have seen looked too well preseved, and even too agile.
Eternal Slaves are mummies of servants, so I imagine them as more decaying and rusted than a normal mummy,
they were mere slaves, so their embalming process could have some quality differences with a Pharaoh mummy,
cheaper bandages, worse resins, less skilled embalmers, etc after 3.000 years all that should turn into a not too nice and well preserved mummy.

So I decided to go ahead making my own conversions, and here you have the pics of the process,
the basis are the GW skeletons and zombies plastic sprue, many epoxy sausages and a lot of hours of fun.
I hope this give you some inspiration.

The conversion is simple but effective and I love the painting job  :-* , especially the "flesh" of the mummy (How you did it?), overall great job.

Un saludo.

glad you like it  :) the flesh it's essentially grey with a bit of blue to increase the cold/warm contrast between body and bandages.
Black on base, then a couple of layers of dark grey with a part of blue, then a midtone with more clear grey with less blue and finally
a couple of less opaque light layers of simple grey. I tried to avoid skin reflects and lights to give the dusty dead skin look.

Real nice conversion… I would like to have the patience (or talent) to do stuff like this…
