If it's a metal figure, you can use nail varnish remover to loosen it up. If it's large pieces they can probably be broken off fairly well as chunks once some remover has been applied. Nail varnish remover can also be used on plastics but you need to be careful and use it sparingly.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Or plain acetone, if you want the same effect ten times cheaper without the rosy aroma...

True, but nail varnish remover is more convenient as my wife already has some :)

Do you know what type? If it's polyester resin then acetone will work fine. It'll also work on most polyeurethane resins (such as that used by Forge World), I'd suggest testing it on a spare piece first though to check it won't damage the resin.

I've had good luck putting figures in a thermos with a sliver of dry ice and leaving the thermos in the freezer for a couple of hours. Cryolate glues then usually cleanly snap off and sometimes without even damaging the paint job underneath.

Chemical suppliers and possibly theatrical suppliers would carry dry ice.  I know where to get it where I live, but I don't think that helps in the UK.

Here's how to make it:

I don't know whether the hydrochloric acid is easier to obtain than off-the-shelf dry ice but in case you envision needing a lot the tutorial may be useful.
