Am I right in thinking those are for WWII?

They look very nice.

They look interwar to me. FF wore a lot of British uniform details during the war.

That part of the Legion that served the Vichy regime would surely not have had British kit? I wonder if they would still have had uniforms of this style. I must admit I'm not overly familiar with their various uniforms at various times, beyond their service in the Great War.

Anyway, what I was getting at was that they don't look "Great War" or classic "Beau Geste" style, I was trying to place them in my mind, period-wise.

Hi Poly

I hope some expansion of the period for these chaps will be forthcoming. I know the Aussies faced FFL in Syria in WW2 and they did give the Aussies a very hard time. :)

I'm quite sure Lon will let us know :)

I must admit its hard trying to find a place to put these guys on the forum in the right thread.

Just took a look in my "The Amred Forces of WWII (Uniforms, insignia and organization) by Andrew Mollo (to me an indispensible standard work ):

...and of course you are right. The Vichy wore their standard french tropicals. The early Free French of Syria etc. was kitted with British uniforms, except the Kepi. Later as  the war swung and more French switched sides a lot of them wore their French gear mixed with American uniforms.

Looks like 1920s Rif War to me.  Add in a Hotchkiss HMG and LMG team and some Rifle Grenades and you've got something to throw back Abdl Krim's insurgents.

Now we just need to see some more of Krim's Harkas.

Looks like some more class work from Mr. Ansell. Should be fine for Rif War and Vichy/early French Foreign Legion. And now that Anglian has released some Spanish Foreign Legion you're well onb the way to beating those harkas...
