Chaos Dreadnought
« on: July 01, 2010, 03:44:07 PM »
Hi all:

Some months ago, I interchanged some minis for an old Space Crusade Chaos Dreadnought with a member of the forum. However, I've lost his e-mail so I don't remember his name/nick, and I thought he'd like to have a look at how his old baby finished looking.

So here are some pics:

Wasn't me, but that does bring back memories!

Space Crusade (or Star Quest, as it was called over here) was the first scifi miniature game I ever played, after having played Hero Quest to tatters with my friends as well. Even though I had a healthy amount of RTB01 marines and some other metals lying around, I didn't even know there were rules for them until I found an old copy of White Dwarf at a convention whilst looking for Hero Quest expansions... Aah; those were the days... :)

Nice work on the Dread. I like the Legion of the Damned-ish look; it suits the model. The addition of the Chaos Vehicle bit to the back adds to it as well.

Couple of minor things though that you might want to do to completely finish the model; - Drill the barrels of the guns; it will look that much better (when lacking a drill, you can do the same with some careful use of a hobby knife; even a shallow indentation will help).
- Add a wash to the gold; it will bring out the details and texture more, especiall on the back, where the vents/intakes/thingamaholes will appear better. A very watered down wash of brown and/or black paint will do the trick just as well if you don't have washes or inks.
- And lastly; there is some nasty flash between and over and under the barrels of the assault cannon; a bit of scraping with a knife blade will solve that for you (and then some touching up of the paint will be required of course).

All in all though, a very nice job that takes old gits like me down memory lane (a couple of leagues down memory lane actually... lol )

I do hope those aren't Imperial Fist parts he's got on his base though... ;)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Hi there...

You are right on the drilling... I am always too lazy for that even tough I DO have a drill.

Regarding the wash on gold... It has it! It is painted gold over the black coat, then heavy wash of brown ink, and then the colour is restored with gold, gold+silver and gold+silver+silver. I am an awful photographer, so all my pics appear with the colours burned due to excess of light.

And yes, they WERE Imperial Fists  ;D
