Dwarven extravaganza!
« on: July 02, 2010, 10:17:07 PM »
I thought I'd post up some more dwarves. These are done using a quicker 'speed paint'* method, to get them on the tabletop fully painted and based, lest I be punished under The Rules of Form.

*Note: the term 'speed paint' is used relative to my normal painting speed (read:slow), and by no means denotes true quickness ;)

Comments, critiques, questions, and suggestions are all welcome.

And lastly, my woad slayers...

Sometimes speed-painting is the only way to get things done. And I think you've done them quite well. Nice old minis.

They look good. I think I would be inclined to touch up the flesh a bit more, though - on a few it is very dark and blends in too much with the rest of the figure.  Of course, that could be the photo too.  I like them!

Touching up is a slippery slope when speed painting... all of a sudden you've spent the same amount of time as on a regular paint job, but don't have the same result to show for it.

I think you did a great job with them! Especially like that you took time to pick out the details.

Thanks for the comments all.

@mweaver
You are absolutely right, these guys definitely need some more layers, blending, and highlights!
I forced myself to hold to a 3 hour time limit for each group of 5 minis (I included the Long Drong model with the other Slayers). It was really hard for me to not keep adding more layers to each one.

What phreedh said is especially true for me. I start adding just 'one more highlight' and the next thing I know,  it's 3 a.m., I have a table full of primed minis, and I feel like the rest need to match the standard that I created with the initial one!  That's why it usually takes me about 5-6 hours per mini when working with 28mm. ;) What a tangled web we weave...

That's one of the reasons I'm starting to really like painting 15-17mm miniatures. I feel like I can get more minis done, to a higher standard, in less time. See this thread:

Those dwarves look great to me. I especially like the woad slayers. And the job you did on the eyes on the  dwarf on the right with the gun in the first picture looks reall cool.
