28mm Inkerman Ghurkas for Malaya
« on: July 20, 2010, 12:48:24 AM »
After a month or two with no painting-mojo, I knocked these out last night and tonight...

I just love these figures... 28mm new from Inkerman Castings.

...and for Helen, for the uniforms I went with Vallejo US Dark Green as the base and added Buff to give the highlights, then washed it with a watered down mix of GW Badab Black and Devlin Mud. The webbing was done in Vallejo Grey-Green.

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

They are amazing! Can you tell me about how you achieved the Gurkha's flesh? I have a pile of Pontoonier Ghurkas on my desk and would love to try to capture it.

Great figures.  Interesting I've not seen the Sterling SMG with an underbarrel grip before.

Thanks Piers, the photos of the Ghurkas look great. Thanks for the tip on the colours used. I'll certainly keep the information on tap.

Dave has shown me the Female CTs, very nice indeed. The Bearded Terror and wife look great, CT bren team kneeling an a excellent looking Bill Stafford. He is now finishing off the detectives to go with Bill Stafford.

@Sterling Moose, the weapon is a Sten.

Cheers,

Helen
Best wishes,
Helen

Nice brushwork, love the uniform tone. Must admit, I can't say I find the sculpts very appealing. Interesting period, pity about the lack of figures.

Lovely stuff, V! Great figures and very well painted.

I've got a huge amount of respect for the Ghurkas after spending a few months serving aongside them in belize in 1980. I always try and fit some into my games if at all feasible - though obviously some periods are much easier to do this.

I'm not a 20thC gamer at all, but this Inkerman range really has me wavering. It's a fascinating war, the uniforms are simple to paint and I have plenty of jungle scenery that is near enough for Malaya. If I can get some cash saved up .......

Vallejo red leather basecoat.

Add GW Iyanden Darksun for highlighting, followed by a touch of Vallejo Sunny Flesh and Yellow for the final highlight.

I'll rephrase that then.  I've not seen a Sten with an under barrel grip before.

MK5 Airborne Sten, issued in WW2 was the first with the foregrip.

Used to own one. Never fire the bugger when holding the mag, just jams.
