Wargames Factory Persians to come

It seems Immortal miniatures set the pace for the new trend. After Gripping Beast's hoplites announcement, Wargames Factory starts a "Legacy of the Greeks" range: first the Persians.

mmm not really convinced.
dunnno why, but they look a bit few detailed.
Maybe i'ts because it is the 3D,but they seems quite old style.

Maybe with a huge freehand painting and decoration they could look awesome... who know.

Can't say I'm especially impressed either. Also, given the claims Immortal are making over new archaelogical evidence etc, I'd hold off on making a Persian range just now...

With the exception of the Sci Fi troopers, I've been consistently disappointed with everything Wargames Factory have come out with. Nothing looks "natural" and even the more positive reviews have a sort of "they're not THAT bad because..." tone to them. "Look guys, they're getting  better! Chainmail!"

My two cents. Don't mean to be harsh...

Well Persians and Greek Hoplite armies are  natch for plastics. Lots of figures needed of a few individual types. Plus the gamers I've known wh owent in for them ahve gone into them with big armies. Surprised it's taken this long really.

I'm more surprised it's taking longer to do the Tricorne era...

The Greatcoats have been the best figures they've made thus far.

Lately I've gotten back into putting together some of their ancient ranges.  I found the Vikings and the Ancient Germans scale pretty well with the new Lord of the Rings plastic sets.  The assembly on the ancients is still frustrating.  Having to glue the limbs as well as the weapons irritates me, I'm tempted to try out the Warlords ancient line.

Some of the scaling issues from earlier sets didn't crop up in the Viking set.  I found in the ancient German and earlier sets there were noticeable size differences between right and left limbs, particularly bare limbs.  Given that the Persians are fully clothed that shouldn't be a issue.

This tells a lot, tho. I prefer zombies, as being low-quality is ok in large hordes.

You should indeed try Warlord for ancient germans and GB for vikings, if you want to stick to the plastic.

No, I'm pretty sure Gorgon's will be metal. I'm one of those crazy gamers who doesn't care what they're made of as long as they look good.

Agree. Gorgon stuff is awesome. Isn't it the old Spartan range of Artizan plus some cool Etruscans?

I had a chat with a friend in the mini making biz some time back and he opined that WF would be the biggest winners amongst the current crop of plastics manufacturers. Cheaper than Perry, Victrix and Warlord and their sculpting was constantly improving.

Seems he was wrong on the second count. Welcome to the future..... it's 1985 but this time in hard plastic.
