Burnt out Wrecks - More Combat Zone Scenery
« on: September 08, 2010, 08:25:11 AM »
Managed to add some more scenery to my Combat Zone project.
Found a couple of old die cast vans in a toy box. Took one apart completely the other left intact. Took them out in the garden and hit them with a hammer  >:D
Stuck them on CD's to match the rest of my Combat Zone scenery and painted them as burnt out wrecks.
Quite pleased with the results  8)

Cheers

The weathering effect is fantastic on those.

But I think you need some more dents, dings, bullet holes, and crushed sections.

Those look great! I agree the weathering and rust effect is very nice. My kids better guard their HotWheels.  :)

Good job, agree that they need a litle more 'distressing' though.

I like them very much but have one strange question:

Do you glue the wheels onto the axles?  I've seen cars that could zoom around the board with the slightest of nudges - funny at first but rapidly becomes a pain and I am wondering if the wheel still spins when upside down  ;D

Lovely indeed!

Maybe you could do a couple more with loads more rust. Initially with burnt out cars, there is lots of black, very little orange and a surprising amount of bare metal. After a few days rust really takes hold of wrecks like these and you get loads of vivid oranges. Any but those completely incinerated often have some small areas of the paintwork left too, so you could add a few more touches of colour.

No criticism intended, just suggestions  :)

15 years putting out car fires in the Fire Service wasn't totally wasted time lol

I glued the wheels  ;)

Thanks for the comments guys, these were a quick job for a game this Saturday. Will look at more rust, bullet holes etc for the next ones I think 8)
Should probably also do a "how to" guide for my webby as well.

Nice and all, prefer the one upsidedown as without the floorpan the other one looks a little bit like a painted toy car ;).

But for quick and easy I can't knock it mate, agree with others re holes, dents and suchlike.

Very effect pieces for a quick job. I love the muted paint schemes.
