Green Tea... Spoilers for those who haven't read it.
« on: September 21, 2010, 11:19:21 AM »
I'm not sure if anyone has read Green Tea by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, but I'm sure many have. If not, I highly recommend it. Anyway, I am trying to formulate a lurker based on the apparition, and I was stuck for a name...

Although apparition might be a good one. Basically, he is a diminutive monkey-like creature with glowing eyes. He haunts one of the main chcracters in the story incessantly. Sometimes disappearing in the unknown only to return again, furious. Yet he can't touch or harm his victim, only occupy their field of vision... eventually leading to madness.

I think he would be interestring to have in a game as an option for the Lurkers player to "haunt" an opposing team-member. It is not a lurker that you actually control, but more like a spell effect.

The apparition may cause negative modifiers to abilities, and over the long term affect the characters sanity.

And it would be fun to use many of the various familiar miniatures out there.

Is this already in source material that I've missed?

Very interesting!! There are a lot of little creatures that we could use for this purpose. Black Cat Bases included one strange  cthulhu-like dog in the first order that I made soem time ago.

I love that story!   :-*

I know Reaper has put out a lot of familiars already, but don't recall if there's a demonic monkey in there...   ;)  Maybe one of the monkeys that come with a pirate mini?

Haven't read the story but some usable game ideas may be found in the Resource section of our Strange Aeons website: Ghosts do some of the things you are looking for...also, floating around on these boards someplace are rules for a Witch and Familiar...not exactly what you are looking for, but still...

When I was a kid I read a story about the same sort of creature...I think it was called 'The Nondescript" which was creepy as hell and I spent many sleepless nights wondering if it was down there...lurking at the foot of my bed! Not a bad name...

Here it is, although it looks a bit short:

I'll check out the website :)

Mega Minis has lots of monkeys available. Their humans run closer to true 25mm, but should work fine for a demon monkey apparition.  :D

"Seriously, there is an outrageous amount of running involved."
