A cork city for free!
« on: October 08, 2010, 04:08:23 PM »
Answering an a post on TMP, I met up with Mark Green yesterday who was disposing of a number of Matakishi (tm) style buildings due to space problems.

I hadn't realised quite how many there were. Picture here:

Anyone have any hints and tips on finishing and painting cork buildings?

thanks

Mike

Plaster them before painting unless you want them too look like raw concrete. In that case a light drybrush over a grey surface will do nicely!

I was going to say the same thing as Michi.
Have you taken any tips from Matakishi, as you know he's the Cork Dude.

Well done on getting that stuff, I saw the advert for them and would have considered driving all the way from here to get them!
Don't!

That's absolutely amazing!
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

I swear this is some form of hypnotic control developed by Matakishi, however to what ends I couldn't say, but there's many gamers who've disappeared under piles of cork buildings never to be seen again. It starts with just a couple of small buildings, works it's way up to a town scape and then before you know it you've bought enough cork tiles to cover a football pitch and your home is packed with buildings of every type and there's not enough room to move.

The only cure, partial as it is, means encouraging other folk to start modelling with cork too, so welcome to the sinister cult club.

Nice selection of buildings, some of my ones can be seen here: http://6milphil.wordpress.com/

mix polyfiller, water and pva glue and then brush on the mix to make a smooth finish.  I also cut tin card into large block shaped patterns to make a monumental portland stone finish just glue on. Thin strips of card arouond the window for wood work.

Making Corkbuildings is like a plaque, when you are infected, you are lost!!

Now i have over 50 Buildings for different games and no end in sight!
When using the right technics for structure and painting and add some details, they will look very realistic
and you dont see thats only made from cork.
The main problem is not enough space for the finished models.
