Pulp Plane lands in my home!
« on: August 20, 2007, 02:15:05 AM »
On Saturday I had the most fortunate luck to run across a beautiful 1929 Curtiss Robin American Airways plane - blue in colour with white wings at my local hobby shop. It was on sale which was even more enticing so I picked it up for $30. When I got it home I matched it up to scale with my Pulp Figures and it is perfect size-wise. It is from Ertl Collectibles 1999 series. It looks very similar to the plane in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I was absolutely thrilled with my find! I will try to take some pictures of it and post them if anyone is interested. Let me know.

I'd love to see it!  Does it come with an inflatable raft, too?

Unfortunately, no raft. Once my wife returns home with the camera I'll take some picks and post them.

Try ebay.  There were at least six yesterday.  I bid on the one closing today and won it for $10.

There's a whole slew of planes in the "Wings of Texaco" diecast bank (!) series on eBay. Diecast sellers are often wildly careless about scale, or even measuring the items.

So, if the Robin is 12" or 13" wingspan, can I guess it's about 1/60th?  The Grumman Goose in the same series is fine for 26mm figures.

Anyone know?

There's a bunch of planes available - Ford tri-Motors and all, some wildly expensive, some more reasonable - although Europeans will NOT want to pay shipping form N. America for such heavy models!  :(  H
