Ok, so I was wandering through the Dollar Store yesterday and I entered a sort of fugue state.  When I emerged, I had two cheap champagne flutes and 8 really cheap plastic margarita glasses.

This is the result, with a Heroclix figure for scale.

needs to be glued and painted now, among other things.

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

Looking good so far. What are your plans for them? I have to say I really like this sort of build but whenever I'm wandering around a pound store I can never seem to get the inspiration.

Right now I plan to assemble them and see what they need.  The top halves will not be glued on, so that I can have fights in the houses, and I haven't figured out what to use yet for floors.  The top halves will also be transparent.

I also need to figure out some sort of door, or at least teleport/door/two-fingered palmreader for the bottoms of the buildings.

I plan on spraying the whole lot silver when I'm done, then weathering it and adding hopefully fairly generic basing.

All this and I just found out I'll be doing overtime at work this week.

Oh - the CDs that gave their life for this project:
1.  "Happy Fun Coaster" from the living room - failed data burn.
2.  "Frozen Embers" by the Cruxshadows
3.  "Gezeiten" by l'ame Immortelle
4.  "Cezanne" by Drop Trio

Here we are with assembly completed (though parts not glued down to the CD yet) and mostly basecoated.  My can of Silver absolutely ran out 4/5 of the way through spraying these, so the pads don't have paint yet.  This will be rectified.

Cost of materials:  $2 for the basics, some free base parts from Crimson Skies clix, and now $3 for a new can of spraypaint.

Hmm they'd also work really well as underground cities for Wessex Games proposed Aquanef game...

Hee!

There you go.

I got the parts all glued down last night, but nothing else.  I think I'm going to leave the living areas empty, and maybe make a bunch of swappable inserts for them.  For the contest though, I'll just put existing scenery inside to make them look occupied.

The pads will get some concentric glowy patterns, such as might befit a landing pad or short-range teleport.  The bases will probably be reddish gravel and coral - made from melting straws and such.  I have to go get a bunch of coffee stirrers.

Heh.  All this and my work week looks like it'll easily hit 50 hours.  Coool.

Neat stuff - what did you use for the landing pad surfaces?

Great stuff, very 'Saturday morning sci-fi' - you have a good eye; able to look at every day objects in a new ways :)

:-* Simply gorgeous. Love the shape of them and they look as though they would be equally at home underwater as they would on Mars. Definitely an idea I'll have to keep in mind for the future.
