Imperial Guard regiment made of several manufacturers
« on: December 13, 2010, 11:02:47 AM »
Hi all:

Last weeks I've been compiling all my old school miniatures from Rogue Trader and 2nd Ed WH40K, and I have mixed them with some Warzone and Pig Iron miniatures, thus creating a valid IG Regiment comprised basically of Gas-masked infantry and some tanks.

As basic infantry is GW Steel Legion (sort of WWII german paras), Warzone Bauhaus Militia (sort of pulpy WWI german-prussians) and Pig Iron Kolony Militia (with German helmets and coats), I have gone to a "germanized" regiment and I've nicknamed them "Teufelshunde" (sorry if mispelled)

I have covered the evolution of this project in several entries in my blog. They are in Spanish, so sorry, but there are plenty of pics to see there.

I am creating a summary of it in this topic.

351th Fusileers of Lacrima Dolorosa. The "Teufelshunde"

1.- Regimental HQ
It is comprised of Pig Iron minis, with a medic (helmet painted) and a NCO proxying as vocop. The two GW stormtroopers are bodyguards. The black guy is a tank commander proxying as Artillery Master, and the red robed guys is an old Rogue Trader era astropath.

Full details, at this link

2.- Enginseers
One is one of the new GW minis, and the other one comes from an old Bob Olley miniature

3.- Infantry Platoon one: Jaegers
It is a mix of GW Steel Legion and Pig Iron Kolony Militia. All painted in German Grey and Neutral Grey (Vallejo). Leather areas painted with Leather Brown and a Brown Ink Wash (Vallejo)

Full details, at this link, including a step by step painting of a trooper.

4.- Infantry Platoon two: Hussars
This platoon is comprised of Warzone Bauhaus miniatures. I've shown many of them in this topic of the forum.

More can be seen at: Bauhaus Militia, and at: Bauhaus Jungle Kommandos

5.- Ratlings and Stormtroopers
The Elite options come from some old RT era ratlings...

and some Warzone Imperial Regulars

More details, at Elites

6.- Veterans
My veterans are comprised of the 2nd Edition metal Cadians,

Better seen, here.

And also from my 2nd Edition metal Catachans, with a Last-Chancers add-on

Also, better seen here

7.- Mercenaries
I've included some very old Squats to the regiment, to be used as "stormtroopers" and be a "legal" option.

Better pics at Squats

8.- Penal Legion
Real oldies here... This is an assortment of Rogue Trader era pirates and guards

You can check them and more at Penal Legion

9.- Armour
Not too much here,
some Sentinels:

Better shown at this link

A Leman Russ tank

and a Chimera transport

both are displayed here: Leman Russ and Chimera

10.- Family Group
Finally, you can check a familiy picture of the whole army in this entry (clic on the small pic)
Full Army

Sorry for the lenght, and hope you like it!

Hehe, fantastic, really takes me back, a wonderful mish-mash of an army. I think I'll always have a soft spot for 40k, no matter what GW do to it. I've many a happy memory of storming across tables with my hordes of appalingly painted Crapachans as a wee nipper. Thanks for posting.

Yep, kryomek buildings.  +1 on the resurrection of old GW minis for a guard force.

That is a lovely mishmash-very nice on all counts, and I really like the way you pulled all these figures together into a thematic army.

Well done, sir!

+1 here for resurrecting old Warzone stock!

Now for more fun, go grab Tomorrow's War or FUBAR with the the respective 40K supplement and have yourself a proper battle!

I like all of it, but the Sentinels are my favorite.  The mesh over the cockpit framework is a great idea, I think I may borrow it.  It makes the driver seem at least somewhat less exposed.

Thank you all...

I already use FUBAR, with the Warzone minis... I was not in the mood to learn another big ruleset, and FUBAR is great for some quick games. Next step will be to adapt Flying Lead to them.

I know I won't be never allowed to use this army in an evil empire tournament, but, then again, Who Cares??? :)

My gaming groups does not care at all and, at least, all models are properly painted :)

@cosmotiger: the mesh was my approach some years ago to a "more armoured" sentinel, as the actual fully enclosed models did not exist when I painted that one.

The models shown in this army have been painted from 1991 to 2010, so it is a really "seasoned" collection of lead!  lol

Oh, and BTW, yes, the buildings are old Kryomek resin building bought circa 1992. Here they are:

A little small for today's standards (they're 25mm) but still usable

Very nice collection and I basically agree with everyone here. I like how you tied all your recent paintwork together (GW, Pig Iron, Warzone) but I also like the variety that the other squads bring in, which doesn't happen as much nowadays as it used to. Of course when you put them all on the table as one army it might look better if all the bases were done the same way but I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. I really like the Rogue Trader models and the Warzone Imperial Regulars.
