I played a solo game of Command and Colors, using 28mm figures. Because my board has no hexes, I modified the rules as follows. Movement is simple, heavy infantry 4", middle 5", light 6", med cav 10", generals 12".
When a unit retreats or evades they add one inch to their movement. Shooting is slings/bow 6", javalins 4".
Each sector had a number of commands in it. Roman deployment included 2x LI in each sector, 2x HI in each flank, and 4x HI with Caesar in the middle. Also on the right flank was 1x unit of German MC

The Germans had 3x units of MI/WI in each sector, and 2x LI in each sector.

Now in Command and Colors, victory is gained by destroying entire units, a unit consisting of 4 blocks, etc…. In my version victory is obtained by removing 30 figures from your opponents army. That simple. Instead of loosing entire units, you wittle your opponent away piece by piece.
