I've just had some done by Steve Dean.  I used Perry Egyptians as they are quite similar.  I think he'll be posting some pics in the next few days.

You know,

If what you need is; Fez, single breasted jacket, long trousers, bare feet, and a rifled musket with bayonet?  You could convert them from Foundry Wild West Federales.  Just cut off the shako, and build up a fez from putty.

The down side being price, and the fact that around half the figures in each pack are wearing serapis, a la Clint Eastwood.  Oh, and they're wearing sandals, not bare foot.

But it might work.

Ignatieff it will be cool to get a look at those, I'll keep an eye out for them  :-*

Major Weenie it sounds like a good idea to me, the mini's that would'nt work could always be sold on ebay to get back some of the money.

I've not as yet had a response from Mark Copplestone, but I did come across a thread on TMP which refers to Copplestone Castings, on which one member responds "If only he had not lost so many of his castings. Zanzibari regulars and Naval nordenfelt spring to mind…" assuming this is correct then one can only hope that he finds these moulds in the future, but much depends on the circumstances in which they were lost in the first place.

And besides the Foundry Federales,

How about the Foundry Darkest Africa Uniformed Askari ?

Fez, single breasted jacket, rifle, bare foot?  But they're wearing puttees.  So you'd have to give them long trousers with putty.

But then they should work?  Right?  And no extra figures with serapis.

Plenty of figures I could make do with as Zanzibari Regulars, for now though I think I'll focus on my other projects and hope the moulds turn up. Thanks for all for your replies!

Steady on!

That's a very exotic and pleasing flag.  I thought that the Sultan of Zanzibar's flag was just a solid red thing.  Were there other, equally exciting, versions of this standard?

And what does it look like flat, if I were to try and imitate it.  How many crescent moons, etc.

Thanks,
MW

Beautiful minis, that fit the part perfectly in my opinion.  :-*

Talented indeed, is Mr. Dean.

Zanzibar was originally a vassal of Oman. The plain red flag that represented Zanzibar in East Africa was actually the flag of the Sultanate of Oman. This red flag was used long after Zanzibar was effectively independent. The one seen on those Steve Dean figures is the "true" flag of the Sultanate of Zanzibar, though I'm not sure when it came into being, or when or even whether it replaced the plain red one as a military standard. If I were to guess I would say it was in 1890, when Britain got involved in running the place, but I don't know.

Whatever the answer to that, this is what it looked like:
