Could Lego-style miniatures work?
« on: 22 December 2010, 08:27:41 PM »
Being a big converter, I was wondering what would happen if a company produced lego-style models that could be put together in any number of ways.

Do people reckon I'm onto something or off on one?

The Lego figures match perfectly with early TAG moderns in terms of style, leading to the suggestion that Seth Nash may well have sculpted for Lego.

Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo

so, you mean multipart models that require no glue but are just snap-together?

I still think gaming with Lego would be a good idea, but it works out so expensive.

Not at all true! If you are a fan of 28mm, like me, and prefer the upper-end of the miniatures quality scale, again like me, you are paying substantially more for minis than LEGO, and you still have to paint the vicious little bastards! ;)

I decided to do Gladiators, Pulp, and now Samurai, skirmish level, w/ both hand-made and LEGO brick terrain, and it is coming together nicely!

There was a Star Wars game at Salute 2010 which was played with Lego.

Brick arms et al are pretty popular too...

Perhaps the OP could be more specific...

The cost of Lego for me was trying to gather enough Storm Troopers for a Star Wars game.  Most kits came with just one Trooper in the £5ish range, to be fair that also included a vehicle of some sort, but would work out quite expensive to build up units.

Skirmishes with lots of individual characters would be a much cheaper and quite cool option in Lego.

Cheaper way to do it is to buy them as presents for your kid, then borrow them for gaming :D

The initial start up (ie getting the kids in the first place) is quite expensive though.

Of course, if you've got some kids lying around anyway, Gamer Mac's quite right. In fact, it's criminal not to make sure they have lots of Lego, preferably bought by rich aunts, etc.

And there are of course the rules to go with using Lego toy soldiers...  http://www.brikwars.com/

They do, they're called Mega bloks  ;)

My Cobi army (lego clone):

Not quite finished collecting yet. It will be used in a giant garden game in the summer playing against other Cobi-gamers.
