Sculpting WWI buildings

I am currently in the process of making a WW1 battlefield with several buildings the type that would be in a larger city around that era and i have no clue where to start  
Could someone give me little help with what materials i need to use and the big question HOW???
Scale is 28mm if that changes how a building needs to be made

i'm making in this period a line of resin buildings for the beginning of the century (actually rthey can works from 1890 to 1945 or more), and i am using plaster to start.

if you don't have time, you can use for example thin layer of extruded ***styrene, dunno which is the best.

i seriously suggest you to make moulds of windows frames and door (or buy them!), because those are the most important parts in buildings. it doesn't matter if the wall is too rough or too flat, if you have nice windows instead of holes carved or cutted from the foam everything will be great!!!

My advice to you would to be to look at the huge range of 1/35 (and some 1/48) buildings out there which are sold for diorama builders/especially for WW2 armour. Two of the best I've come across are Verlinden and Mini Art. Verlinden are mostly resin and dental plaster while Mini Art are plastic, which gives them some advantage of being able to have both sides detailed plus they are fairly hard to break. The other one is PMD whose stuff 'Europe in ruins ' is well sculpted though I have had some poor casts and poor service from them. It does'nt matter that it is WW1 or WW2 ...just go for the more French/ Belgian looking stuff. Such as:







If you're going from scatch you could get a bunch of brick sheets and windows/ doors (best selection I've seen is Grandt Line).
