Creating a repeating pattern... suggestions wanted

I want to produce the pattern on the tails several times over. Any suggestions? I doubt a stencil/template would work due to the spacings.

Why not just print the whole design? If you don't want to use paper for the banner, what about waterslide transfer decal? I've never been able to source any of the decal paper for my printer locally, but what I've seen of it on the internet looks OK as long as it's used with respect to its limitations.

Copy it into 'paint' dear boy and then you can copy and copy and copy to your hearts content

I'd do much like the other's and just repeat the pattern in Paint and print it.  Captain Blood, on the other hand, would paint it freehand!

At the scale of a 28mm banner a bitmap image (basically made of pixels) should suffice if the original is O.K resolution. I agree that dropping it into paint or photoshop, cropping the section you want then pasting it to form a pattern is fairly quick and easy.

Alternatively if you have access to a program like illustrator you can convert the bitmap image to a vector very easily and the advantage then is that you can scale it to whatever size you want with no loss of quality. I'd certainly use software like this if you are planning to use text much.

If you don't have photoshop or paint then just download 'the gimp' for free...does pretty much the same thing.

The best solution is to use PHOTOSHOP and create a BRUSHES with the pattern do you want to use

Heh, serves me right for being unspecific. I want this pattern to run along a balustrade/low wall type thing. I'll go look for an example.

Definate possibility! Are partial cuts possible, so no holes?

Print it and cut it out on thinnish shiny card and then use the cut out like a rubber stamp with embossing ink and powder?

Wouldn't come out perfect but perhaps give the effect of weathered carving when painted?

As a rastor, yes (like engraving or heavy sandblasting)
