28mm Cop Cars etc.
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:29:27 PM »
Hey folks!

Happened upon a stroke of luck while in a gift shop in Vegas of all places (!), so I figured I'd share the wealth as I'm sure there are others who'd like these things.

First (and best!) is the good ol' fashioned Ford Crown Victoria cop car. Generic decals and classic black and white! Company that makes it is called KiNSMART (China). I got five of em for four bucks each (!).

Then there's a nice H3 Humvey. Great for Zombieland fans. Made by Maisto (China). Got it for four bucks as well.

Last there was a nice silver Lexus. This one had a crack in the windshield so I got if for two bucks. Also made by Maisto (China)

Scale models are Hasslefree which are on the 25mm side and RAFM (which are to the 28-30mm).

I'm sure these companies must have made other vehicles in this scale. See if your Google Fu can find some!

They're all die-cast metal and the pantjobs are decent. I'll mask the windows, hit them with dullcote and then do a bit of weathering on them, then hit them with dullcote again to make them less flat.

Great score.

Ummm...Achilles, you do know that the Crown Vic is a Ford not a Chevy, right? The Chevy cop cars are Caprice or newer Impalas. Just being picky...and a little jealous of your finds. :D

I have that Crown Vic. cop car, the local Rite Aid has them for $4.99 each along with other vehicles including the occasional Hummer H2. I was lucky when I picked up the die cast cars I have, they were buy one get one 1/2 off, Bought 4 of them the cop car, 2 hummers and one US Postal Service Truck. I repainted the Yellow H2, now its black, I do have another Yellow H2 that I picked up after the initial die cast purchase.

I've picked those Maisto ones up at the local Wally World.

I've gotta find me some of those cop cars.

Anybody got a decent painting technique to keep the glossy colors intact, but still make them feel more a part of the miniature world?  They always look far too much like toys for me to be completely satisfied.

Which gift shop? I live in Vegas, so I should be able to find them easy enough.

I use a semi-gloss Clear-coat to get the pain to stick and then a bit of weathering on the fenders and tires.

The gift shop was in the Mall section of the Rio. The one with he crappy swords by Vince Neils tattoo parlour. I did clear out everything they had out though! ;)

I'll one up you, I found a Hummer with the police lights and stickers.
Sadly, it's closer to 1:40 (looks like this one), but not too badly out of proportion.
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

Edit: Would you mind checking on the boxes of both companies (KiNSMART and Maisto) what scales they were?

Thanks!
A.

All of these were sold loose dude (as most chinese DieCAst stuff is). Sorry man, no scale help here...  but I'd reckon 1/55th if I were to guess.

That's a pity...
I've checked Maisto web page at http://www.maisto.com/ and even found/downloaded a 2010 catalogue of their stuff but they only seem to have 1:18 and 1:24 there.
There's a couple of vehicles looking very similar to the ones you bought, so either they messed up the scale or they have the same ones in more than one 1 scale...

If you bother to check their on-line catalogue please let us know if you find your models there.
Thanks anyway!
