28mm cheap cars?
« on: April 20, 2013, 08:11:50 AM »
I want to get about half a dozen or more cheap cars suitable for 28mm. I'm going to squash them somehow to make them into a wall of wrecked cars. Any ideas where I can get some really cheap?

Thanks

Once you locate em why not do the tinfoil copy and paste technique?  :-)

If you have charity shops nearby, grab a 28mm model and go browsing.

A few of my local shops had LOADS of cars recently. £2-£4 each
If you'd like an apocalyptic monster in 28mm, throw me a PM and I'll think it over.

A good idea. Thanks messyart, I was being lazy and hoping I could just sit at the computer and order some cheap ones.
I may just raid may sons car box and do some of those tin moulds and luckily I have a huge amount of plaster in my garage so I can give that a go today.

Some nice cheap ones can be had at your local dollar general (scale 1:43, perfect for 28mm $1-2 per vehicle).  Another good source for inexpensive 28mm cars/trucks is Toys R' Us Fast Lane vehicles (they have a new part of the line that is 1:43).

Thanks myrlyn. Here's what I've come up with, casting some of my sons cars in tin foil and then using plaster to reproduce them. Goldar the barbarian for scale.
Still not finished though. I need to put some metal scrapes and rust on them. Passable for post apoc terrain though I think.

as has been said charity shops or car boot sales BUT get your kids to buy the cars ....otherwise the seller will think you are a collector and will try to charge you a fortune....

Heres how it goes -

Dad: "Son werent you looking for some more cars...."

Son::Yes Dad, can I have my pocket money now?

Dad: Here we are son £2 - wonder what we'll find in this box...if you are good the kind man might let you take a couple extra

Dad & Son rummage...

Secure six good cars - right scale -

Dad: see how much he wants from them son?

etc etc

If you have a 'Poundland' anywhere nearby, they somtimes have a selection of 28mm suitable toy cars.

I did the same technique although I kept the aluminum foil.

But I think that you´ve achieved a stunning result. Congrats!

Tosses are nice diceplague. I'll have to muddy mine up some.
Unfortunately plaster + ground = smash.
One has a big crack through it. I can probably salvage it though and seeing as its a ruin anyway it won't matter too much.
