Board Edge
« on: February 12, 2011, 12:19:15 AM »
I thought I would post this up even though it is not quite finished, to see what you think.
It is for at the edge of the board.

It is about 2' long and 5" high. The idea is that it can be used as an objective or just to block an edge of the board. It is going to be double sided. Out side and inside of a factory.
Inside wall not finished painting yet

On the front I have left a flat area where I am going to build a removable outbuilding or entrance way.

In the middle is a door to a cellar.

A small door at the other end. Still to finish painting.

The rectangle above the door is a magnet so I can fit inter-changable signs.

and one more of the whole thing.

I have used my normal building method with this. It is all made out of pizza trays mounted on MDF.

I already have ideas to make it a Factory with different signs for different types. My brother says it looks like a prison so I will make signs for that.
The out building can also be a chimney. I am also thinking of having different types of fences or wall which would make it look different again.
I am also thinking that in the future I will make two end walls and another long wall so that I have the whole factory.
Anybody got any other ideas.

I like this a lot. Beautiful.

I'd just add some partial depth details to the back, just a catwalk/hallway for the second floor along the windows with maybe a staircase going up. Maybe a small room at the end where the window is different. Figures can then placed in the windows, it would still fit in with the factory theme and not interfere with your eventual expansion to full blown factory (open concept factory). I'd probably just build the side walls, one with a large access door, as it could still act as an edge piece but be playable inside with easy access.

You must eat lots of pizza.
Another fantastic build.
Cheers

Wow! I really like this, looks great and is an inspiring 'backdrop' for your table. Awesome build!

Beautiful - that's a whole lot of scribing! The painting is fantastic - very realistic brickwork - and of course the whole thing is a great idea. What about the windows and doors? Scratchbuilt or bought? If bought, where from?
Looking forward to more!

Superb stuff Colin. I love all the little touches like the cellar door etc. Should be an impressive sight on the table.  :-*

All sorts of inspiration there. I really must get back into urban buildings... maybe I'll try and squeeze a smaller version of this board edge facade into the timetable before LPL5 lands on me with big spikey boots...

The bigger windows are scratch built out of plastic card and plastic embroidery squares. I got a packet of five from hobbybase for a couple of pounds. I just cut the shape I wanted and then glued strips of plastic card around the shape.
The smaller window is from Antenocities.

wait, what? O.o

I am not sure what O.o means?

A supermarket chain here, Tesco, sells thier own brand pizza that comes on a black foam tray.

Good material for scribing bricks and if you like pizza, its free :D

The idea was to have it generic, so it could be used for loads of places.
The first use is going to be an Aeronef factory :D
