Some MiGo pics (feedback appreciated!)
« on: 13 February 2011, 03:51:46 PM »
Here's a few pics of a couple of MiGo I've just finished. Love the Black Cat Bases ones; they really are what I imagined when reading WID as opposed to the RAFM ones which are good but just not quite there. Anyway I'd really appreciate feedback on the colour scheme. I'm quite happy with them but I'm not too sure about the "bio-weapon" doofer.

So the premise is this. Reading the entry in the CoC rulebook; MiGo communicate with each other through colour in their "heads"... so I've taken this and coulured up the sensory organs. Wings too, I figured could indicate a sense of dominance using pigments, or even just extra communication.

As for mixing and matching; I suppose if they're fungi there's call for a good bit of polymorphism, depending on environmental factors etc. I can't remember WID (I'll have to re-read it!!) but going a bit geeky, I suppose it's not unreasonable to assume that the body is not the fruiting body of the fungus (ie the mushroom) but everything, so in that case are the fungi a mass of mycelia that attach to whatever substrate they can find/build exoskeletal structures from whatever minerals they get from the ground, thus allowing them to look relatively different depending on where they're from? Hmmm.......... Anyway, have a gander at the pics.

What do you guys think, does it work?? I can't wait to get a few more!

Thanks guys. They're really nice minis to paint, and I can see myself picking up a couple more, as well as getting some from Mirilton for variation. Think I'll make the one with the weapon the head-honcho for gaming purposes  :)

BCB do you sell flight stands like the one in my pic? I got it from a GW Tau drone, and I might need a few more. :D

I bought a couple of those Mi-go from Black cat last week and have been thinking about colour schemes. I might use the mixed colours on the brain portions of mine too.

I really like how you used the colour blending on the brains and the wings.  Very clever.  It also adds a little variety on some standout models.

Hi,

No we don't sell flight stand (purely because we find they snap!) We use the base we supply with them and a papercil (drilled the model and green stuff in the slot (put in wire and allow to dry before attaching model via predrilled hole) or drilled into the base) for flying monsters!

EM4 do though: http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/MINIAATURES_BASES.html

Cool! Thanks BCB! :D They are hell of a brittle, but I guess it's a hard habit to kick. Originally I'd just notched the base you supplied, and stuck it on via the tip of its abdomen, but then I decided to try it on a flying base and I quite liked it. I'll probably use a mixture of flying bases and normal bases for variation. :)

They are lovely minis. Exactly how I imagined the Fungi to be (and more). I love the Deep Ones also; I can't wait for my pack to arrive so I can get 'em painted up.

Well done.  In what Lovecraft book do the MiGo appear?  do they have any special powers?

They're pretty much the stars of The Whisperer in Darkness. A superb story, and about to be released as a film by the HPL Historical Society.

Bad news... my flying MiGo's flight stand broke at the tip :'(
