British Naval Landing Party
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:25:49 PM »
Here's the best shot I could manage tonight (before my camera ran out) of my British Naval Landing Party for into the Heart of Africa.

I usually run:

1 Regular Leader (Disciplinarian)
5 Regulars
6 Regulars
6 Soldiers
14 Askaris
1 Scout
1 Standard Bearer
1 Machine Gun

Which comes in just over of 600points (500points + 20% extra for being a colonial power).

I find the regulars are very tough nuts to crack (especially with the leader nearby), but a short range ambush or lucky volley can soon put pays to them. The machine gun is highly feared in our group, but has yet to really impress, usually being out-maneuvered due to its lack of mobility. The askaris are very much a meat shield, though if they can get all 14 shooting at a target they have caused a lot of casualties. The scout (Tarzan) is probably one of the most hated units, the ability to quick march a column of troops really makes up for the slow pace of the army and can cause some surprises, in one game he charged a ML Cannon by himself, catching the Ruga-Ruga player completely off guard!

That is a nice looking Naval Landing Force. I really have to finish the final paints on my Lunda so I can post a picture of them as well.

I wish you would. :)  I'm quite curious to see what figures you've used, the force composition etc. You don't see Army No. 16 fielded every day, after all.

Smart-looking force. Is that Queen Victoria leading the expedition in person? If so that's quite a party, what with David Livingstone and Lord Greystoke along for the ride too.  :)

Let's see, if you want to know if they look at all like Lunda, nope. I use a mix of Copplestone and Foundry and whatever other African figures I can find. I'm less concerned with historical accuracy than with enjoying a good game.

Nah, just interested in seeing your army, not in picking holes in it. I have no idea what Lunda looked like anyway, beyond the fairly safe bet that they were a bunch of black guys with spears and shields.  :)

Great little force you have there - sound very effective in game-play as well.

really nice  :-* I've got plans to paint up a landing party myself at some point, but I already have so much else on the go, that God only knows when I'll get around to it!

Looks great. But is the Union Jack the right way round?
