WWII Colours - Help Needed
« on: September 24, 2007, 09:09:25 AM »
I'm about to start playing Hour of Glory and bought some miniatures to go with it.

I've looked at German Colour schemes and can see that it's a Greeny but Grey colour.

Can anyone suggest some paint that I could buy to get a reasonable likeness.

Thank you

 :)

Hi Dodge,  Could you please provide what area of conflict you are gaming with your Germans? :)
Best wishes,
Helen

Helen, Hour of Glory is a boardgame with figures about Allied raids on Nazi Germany. Sort of a "Where Eagles Dare" on the tabletop.

So generic World War Two Wehrmacht colours are the order of the day, I suppose. Can't really help with specific  colours myself, as that is outside of my painting experience, I'm afraid.

I totally recommend Vallejo Model Color´s "German Field Grey WW2". While more avid historians might have problems with it, I´ve found it to be the perfect "Feldgrau in one go", especially for pulp subjects.

Plynkes is right. The basic premise of Hour of Glory is that you have a side of agents infiltrating a stronghold. This in fact could be at any time during the war period.

I'm hoping to use eve of D-Day colour schemes at first for German Sentries etc... attacking a stronghold in Europe i.e a Chateau or Bavarian Castle.

When I've played a few games who knows what I'll do? Probably Bunker Storm which I bought at the same time   but that's for another time.

Paul - Thanks for that I've printed the article and looked at the paint range and will get some maybe the German Camoflage set as this has a number of colours including the field grey.

Westfalia Chris - Thanks for the advice I'll go with that Hour of Glory is fairly pulpy

Thanks Poly, I've never heard of them before now. They do sound very interesting :)

Never played it myself, but have nearly bought it on several occasions.

The look of it reminds me of a Games Workshop fantasy  game I used to play a few years ago with my mates. Can't remember the name of it.

I think Dodge is on the right track. Nice as those cardstock figures may be, I'll wager it's better with painted figures.

The board looks a bit like the ones from Heroquest, a joint production of GW and MB Games.  Could that be the one you're thinking of?

After seeing a review of the Hour of Glory in Wargames Journal I was really tempted.  It's on my 'maybe' list still.

Your absolutely right.

The creators are ex - GW.

They described it themselves as Heroquest WW2 style.

I saw it salute and nearly bought it. Then kept looking at their website till I saw thet=y were doing a deal for Hour of Glory and Bunkerstorm and bought it all. It looked fantastic at salute.

Their website is :

www.warmacre.com

Now have lots of figures to paint and still the same amount of time. The wife doesn't know about it yet haven't a clue how I'm going smuggle it all into the house then pretend I had it all along

Hi Paul

I've bitten the bullet and purchased a set of paint with field grey in it.

Looking forward to using them.

Right

My Vallejo Colours have arrived including Field gray.

Can't wait to try them out.

Does that only sound sad to me?
