Black Templars Thunderhawk
« on: 23 February 2011, 03:24:55 PM »
Right I have started building and painting this beast....

I got it as compensation for the knee on my warhound titan breaking once it had been built and painted, it is fixable with a little hard work, plus there is a very good possiblity that there is a plastic warhound planned for christmas release, which will actually be bigger than the forgeworld one, so I might not even bother, and just buy another, maybe give mine a viking funeral :D

Anyway I digress......Thunderhawk pictures, painting so far:

Bill and Ben the Thunderhawk Driving Men

safe to say this beast is going to take a wee while!

"Hey Ben..."

"Yeah?"

"Weren't we like, flying a gunship a moment ago?"

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Sort of reminds me of a scene from Red Dwarf were they've been got by some weird pyschic aliens and think they're in a 1940s tyoe movie in a getaway car when the effect wears off and they realise they're just sitting on boxes like small kids playing cops and robbers.

@ FionaWhite

Haha, obviously being a massive model its very much work in progress, I have to start somewhere.  As the entire interior is going to be painted thought I would start with the pilots :P

@ joroas

Thunderhawk for £42? Thats something I have to see as they are currently £399 (or free if you stand up for your rights as a consumer).  I am assuming that you are confusing the Stormraven with the Thunderhawk

The interior is painted although when I glued it all together last night I relaised some prat hadn't taken photos, so I will only be able to provide VERY dark pictures of the interior more as proof it was done than anything else.  I know have to spend a week filling in all the mismoulded areas and horrendous mouldlines....mould canyons would be more to the point, bloody old moulds are breaking down, no wonder they gave me the fecking thing for free!!!  I am already loosing paticence with this thing and want it finished so I can get on with my true passion, Golden Demon entries.

It's coming along very nicely, how did you get it for free?
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

Thanks Pil.  I do tend to speed through things once I put my mind on it. Since those pictures were taken yesterday evening I have attached the landing feet (which are surprizingly sturdy for thin bits of resin, I will probably get home from work to find they have all snapped  lol ) also dry fitted the secondary wings at the rear (ones with lazcannons) but they dont fit into the rest points on the main wings properly so I think I will just pin them in place as I am not really that bothered about fully moving parts on forgeworld models.....some sort of fear about resin and snapping, I could do something similar to the assault ramp at the front which is fully re-enforced with high tensile steel rod through the hull and door with a magnetic latch at the top to keep the door shut.  Also all the airfoils are now attached.

I got it for free because the knee/leg on my warhound titan had some sort of freaky airbubble in it that only became apparant once the model had been built, painted and displayed when the leg started to split so I kicked up an almighty shit storm and they came back with the offer of a thunderhawk, replacement warhound or my money back

Right so very nearly finished building, just the missile/bombs to do and then painting on the exterior will begin in earnest

oh and I need to sort out the major mould lines on the front of the rear wings

Guilty as charged.

For the money they charge I would have expected a better-produced kit than you have.

Don't worry none of us are infallable mate, although my ex from 4 or 5 years ago Vicky liked to think otherwise  lol

Agreed for £1 short of £400 I would expect pretty much perfection instead what you get is a mismoulded, warped monstrosity covered in, I can't even call them mouldlines as its more like the two halfs of the mould weren't lined up correctly during the moulding process....perhaps I got the one made by the "can't be bothered rather be on the dole YTS trainee" and they are usually perfect, but for the time being I won't be forking out £400 for one.  Save to say it has taken me a good two weeks of heating all the parts to get it all to fit and there are bits that just never actually fit at all.

Lucky I got it for free really :D

All that said now I have the finish line in sight I would do it all again as I love the look of the model, two things spring to mind when I think of Space Marines, the Land Raider and the Thunderhawk, and as I have been told quite categoircally that a plastic thunderhawk is never going to materialise, resin and massive amounts of work must ensue.
