Chaos in Carpathia Warbands

I've just got some Design 28 miniatures to start a Monster Hunter warband. They're great minis and arrived within a couple of days from when I placed my order. I'm really looking forward to getting these painted up.
Painted this one as a test piece. It's a Pinkerton Detective.

You did an excellent job with the shading of the black on both figures.  Mine always seems to come out like grey lines.  Whats your technique?

Both very nicely painted, with excellent blacks (as mentioned previously). Their scary zombie eyes are creepin' me out a little bit, though...
