Matt,

just downloaded your AR:SE. Had a bit of a chuckle when I tried to set up the destination folder and my 'puter only let me name it ARSE without the " : " . But that's just me  lol  I can see I'm going to have to cave in and buy a shitload of Zs at some point.

As an ex-Sapper I've already donated to Combat stress but I'm more than happy to donate more.

Thanks for both providing the rules and helping to publicize this vital charity. Oh and as I can't get to Salute, I'm hoping it all goes well and you take lots of lovely pics to post here.

Cheers,
Ian

Why haven't you already?  ::)  I know I have lots... somewhere....

I am right now determined to get my zed gaming back online, but it'll take me some time to 1) find all the relevant minis I already own, 2) sort out which minis I already have ready for painting, which ones I should get ready next, and which ones I need to buy, 3) figure what materials I need to stock up on (like washers and magnets for my preferred cookie-tin storage method), 4) get purchases prioritized (funds are very limited).

In the meantime, I'll follow all Z-related topics in here closely, to keep building up motivation.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Believe me, I'd love to! The usual problems - time, money etc stop me at the moment.

Zs are my second favourite horror creature -after Werewolves - so when I can get to buy enough of them to make a game viable, I will  :D

Sorry.

 lol

The whole AR:SE thing, apart from standing for AKULA's Rules:Skirmish Edition, is just to make the point that most rules get taken FAR too seriously, either by the people that write them, or even worse, by the people that play them....warGAMEs are meant to be fun....   :D

As an ex-Sapper I've already donated to Combat stress but I'm more than happy to donate more.

Thanks mate, all donations are greatly appreciated.

Hopefully we can raise some more cash at Salute, from punters visiting the Battlefield game - have got all the official Combat Stress Collection materials sorted already.

The generosity of gamers never ceases to amaze me, and helping those that suffer from the effects of Combat Stress, seems to strike a natural chord.

Here is the link for anyone that would like to donate - just click on the logo, below, and it will take you to my secure Justgiving page.

The latest installment of AKULA's Rules : Skirmish Edition (AR:SE) are now available, FREE to Download.

All I would ask is that you make a small donation to The Combat Stress Charity, via my dedicated Justgiving page.

Both the Rules (and counters), and Combat Stress Donation link, can be found, by clicking on the logo below, or by typing the following into your internet explorer address box:

BAD AR:SE is meant as a homage to the Battlefield Bad Company 2 online multi-player game (PC/xbox/PS3).

As such, the games are meant to be FAST and BLOODY!

In all, we played 3 games, using the rules at Salute, yesterday, with a total of 22 players (4,8,10) - each player controlled a squad of 4, representing one of each of the classes of soldiers, ie Assault, Recon, Medic, and Engineer.

The first game was timed to last for a max of 45 minutes, but in the end, we had a result within 40 mins (ie one side completely wiped out) - approx 4 turns.

The second, and third games each lasted for a timed hour, with a decisive, and bloody result in each case.

We didn't use the respawn rule, for the participation games, so as to produce a clear winner (ie last man standing).  The ammo rule realistically only came into play in one game, as the first turn was spent legging it into position - for longer games, involving respawn, it would definitely come into play, as ammo begins to run short during the third turn of firing.

If you use the ammo rule, you will need a set of 12 ammo counters, for each squad, you field.

Ahhh about bleeding time too. I was looking for these last night.  ::)

See on wordpress you can schedule posts, so my propaganda wagon popped up as Salute opened without me having to do a damn thing. Thought you might have done similar but not sure Blogger does that. Hopefully get you a bit of extra traffic for them as I linked on my salute post and had a stonking number of readers - so far 3,000+ today.  :o

Cheers Phil.

I had a bit of shock the other week, when my Battlefield Blog got featured on kotaku (online gaming site) - the article got 30,000 hits in under 48 hours.....   :o

Electronic Arts have also very kindly mentioned the game, on the official EA Battlefield Blog, and Battlefield Twitter, so the more coverage the better!

I took a couple of photos of you guys playing Bad AR:SE yesterday that I have put up on my blog.  I didnt have time to introduce myself (I was rushing for a plane at that point) but the table looked cool and you guys seemed to be having fun :)

Kudos for making the rules available again :)

I won't double-post, but there are plenty more of the Battlefield game, in action, on this LAF thread:

Just to let you know, the Collection tin, at Salute yesterday raised £83.99 (and 1 US cent).

Together with the online donations, so far, that makes over £250 so far.

Tommorrow, I will post up the figures that people have generously donated, for auction.

In the meantime, anyone that would like to donate some of your hard-earned dosh, to Combat Stress, please just click on the linkie below, which will take you to my secure Justgiving page:

Thanks again

Matt

I had hoped to be able to play, but our Red Barons-Salute picknick took way more time than I thought it would.  :'(
Only got round to take a look at the table just before we were scheduled to leave. did take some (very amateuristic) pics though which are somewhere in this album :
http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd388/zizi666/Salute%202011/

I will definitly take a look at the rules and have therefore just contributed a small amount. :)

note to self : next year : no picnic, less buying, play something and start to meet and greet people.  ::)
