In the Heart of Africa Campaign Rules and some images
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:25:47 PM »
Had another In the Heart of Africa campaign day last week. This time a Belgian Colonial force was facing the Turkish Slavers (far side) and my Lunda tribe was playing its final battle against the Jungle Pygmies (near side).

Once again, the Colonial force was crushed under the massive numbers of the opposing army. Though they held out a bit longer this time than previously. Here we see the final two White Men and some Azande allies staring down the muskets of the enemy.

Though my plan was sound, some REALLY poor die rolls on a spearmen charge reduced my left to nothing. Plus, Joe finally figured out how to use the pygmies best and he held my Warriors back. This was follwed by a series of poor morale rolls that had my army fleeing en mass. This shows the point where all my plans went awry. :)

If you are interested in trying out the simple Campaign rules in their playtest version or using the same map I set up, I have put both below.

Oh really nice! Thanks for the rules. They are very interesting and I think I'll discuss them with my playing mates on Friday. I can see them working for other settings as well.

That's a nice and easy set of campaign rules.

Downloaded - one day I will reach Africa!  :)

I set up the campaign rules so that they could be easily modified for other settings and some version will probably appear in the other "historical" rules that I put out under the Sinister Laboratories moniker.

We happen to play at the 250 point level, but you can adjust your map to higher values for larger campaigns of 500 or 750 points.

I really like the way it's set up. When I am thinking of campaign map I get into the "complicated" area very quickly. This is nice but simple. Did you draw your map "by hand" on the computer by the way?

I know what you mean about the complex-map system rules. I specifically did NOT want something like that. I wanted there to be a reason for a map, but it would allow for little bookkeeping (we just have a list of our 6 players and the numbers of the territories they control next to them).

The map was done in Illustrator and then dropped over the background image.

Looks great! I'd love to see some close ups of the figures.

Very nice - 2 page campaign rules get my vote, the map is smart, and it looks like you're having a lot of fun with the games! It doesn't get much better than that I reckon.
