The new south's african colony
« on: March 09, 2011, 08:13:37 PM »
I have decided to add another army to my fictional African conflict. One day I was watching the Ghost and the Darkness, a great movie by the way, and I came up with the idea of having a colony populated by confederate renegades/colonists. I kicked around this idea for a good while thinking about what figures to use. Then I saw the Perry's zouaves and just had to have them. I was going to use them as Louisiana colonists mixed with some french. I was also going to use Perry US cavalry as irregular cav. I got some Pershing in Mexico US troops from Old Glory to use as regular troops. Also from Old Glory, I'm going to use some cowboys as irregular troops/ranchers and some apache renegades.
I was going to paint up the regular troops in a butternut color, the ranchers in various clothes, the apache... well, as apache. The zouaves I was thinking about a light khaki coat with red or yellow trim and red or blue pants.
The area that I need some help on is what to call this new colony. I dont really like the New South, as the people are not all from the souther states. Any ideas would be great.

"Secessia" has a nice ring to it (pardon the groan-inducing pun).

Great idea & start for a interesting force.  I like the idea of Zouaves in khaki.  Maybe even put them in pith helmets to match more of the late 1800s uniform styles.

How about instead of Confederate States of America, Confederate States of Africa.  I guess they'd have to have multiple states within the colony for them to be Confederated, but maybe something similar.

Or since it sounds like most of the people would be from the former CSA states, name it after prominent CSA people, Jefferson Davis, Robert E Lee, etc.

Or to make it less south oriented, United States of Africa.

How about 'Liberia'?

If you're positing a different version of the Civil War, perhaps some Confederates went to 'reclaim' the former American colony, and renamed the capital 'Jeffersonia'.

How about Graceland? Capital city: Memphis.
