10 or 15 mm Pulp
« on: 31 March 2011, 02:13:50 AM »
Okay, I may need to trade in my 25+ mm figures for 10 or 15 mm when I retire and move. IF I decide to do that I would want to maximize the reduction to all eras/genres I could.  I have no idea what resources for 15 or 10 mm figures/terrain exist for Gothic Horror or Pulp!  Any ideas?

Gracias,

Glenn

Rebel Minis, Khurasan, and Brigadegames all do 15mm pulp, from adventurers to mummies.  Pendraken's 10mm dungeon looks great painted up in sandstone and fits in quite nice with 15mm figs.

As for Gothic Horror, Old Glory is releasing their entire (I think) line of the old Vampire Wars in 15mm sometime this year.

Glenn

I'd go for Pendraken's 10mm figures. The ranges are increasing monthly; the figures are easily convertable and they have a brilliant forum  where people will give you ideas for all the different genres you've been asking about. And the dungeon is brilliant as well as being compact.

I'm in the process of upgrading from 28mm to 10mm and wish I had done it ages ago.

Pendraken needs an easier way to access/search pictures.  There are pictures of figures that I had seen on the old web site that I could not find on flickr/new website.

Glenn

Yup, perhaps it would be better if they had photos of all their figures on their site but I imagine that they are only a small business and seem to spend their time getting new figures designed and dealing with orders.
The forum is peopled by a friendly and creative bunch of people who between us probably have all the figures in the ranges and if you ask, someone will surely be able to stick a photo up for you or give a few recommendations.
And the service provided by Pendraken is second to none.

Fair enough work around.

Let me ask you a question - will 15 mm urban terrain work with Pendraken 10 mm figures?

Gracias,

Glenn

15mm-wise the only buildings I have are Time Cast (I think) Far Eastern shanty houses. The Pendraken 10mm figures don't look out of place with them but I dare say some stuff might look a bit big.
But there is plenty of 10mm/N scale stuff you can get.

I'll give that some thought.  Railroad terrain such as building were expensive alt time I looked.

Yeah, really having some doubts about 10 mm stuff.

Glenn

OK Glen

Just in case you haven't looked at the forum, it's worth having a butchers at the Battle Report section where Nik Harwood has done a couple of Strange Aeon games using 10mm and speaks of the figures he's used. He's also used them and teh dungeons for a mummy game too.

BTW I'm not on Pendraken's payroll...just very impressed with the figures and company and wish I had had the courage to jump in and buy 10mm rather than 28mm ages ago.  :D

The big issue in my mind is that I would have to choose 10 mm or 15 mm for all games/eras/genres to keep space usage to the desired minimum.

Interesting battle reports.

Hi Glenn,
Although the Pendraken stuff I've seen is very nice you might need to consider what other companies are 'out there' in 10mm in case that they disappear from the market in the future. In 15mm there are a wide range of companies producing Pulp/horror/sci-fi/modern figures (does that cover your interests fully? I know you've posted a few similar topics!) so that even if 1 or 2 do cease production then you'll be able to find surrogates. There's also a much wider range of terrain in 15mm, except for the European & US based model railway manufacturers in N gauge.

You're quite right in deciding to go with 10mm OR 15mm. There is a bit of overlap with terrain, buildings etc but it can prove difficult to produce something that looks good with both sizes.

BTW I think that the Timecast shanties work with 15mm or 20mm & I'd have thought that they're too large for 10mm!
