SoTR support option guide part 4 of 4
« on: April 08, 2011, 03:49:00 PM »
I compiled a guide to the most frequently used US support options and descriptions on how to best use these units. I plan to write similar guides to the UK, Soviet and German platoons as well. The support options included are both from the core rulebook and the Doomsday expansion.

The US guide includes

US sentinels
Chameleon Snipers
APE Squad
Jet Rangers
Sherman tank
M10 Wolverine
Light Flamethrower mecha

Check it out  :)

Second part deals with the Germans, and they are the nation with pretty much the best stuff in the support option department.
Along with the German core of Grenadier squads, which can be built according to your needs and are very customizable - the support options allow German platoons to be a bit more versatile than other platoons in SoTR.

The guide includes

Wolfgang Faust
Frau Tear
Vampire
Zombie Hordes
Sturmzombies
Gretel & Ilsa
Hans the Hunter
Wolf Runners
Werewolves
Blitzhund
Drop Troopers

The temple guys are Arizan Design, "Immortal Battalion" and their leader is a greenstuffed model from their Thrilling Tales range - complete with weapon swap and all.

Had read of these in full finaly. Find it interesting that people use Hellboy for Black Jack where you play. Hes American and at the time of WW2 was just a wee baby. We tend to use Union Jack (heroclix model one). But I guess each their own :P

Also with the Americans and the use of Sentinels. I tend to upgrade my Armies Cool to 8 when i build the army and stick a Sentinel with 2 fire teams or 2 squads and push for an objective or flank. Everyone has cool 10 and if someone sends something to stop the squads moving up that flank that they cant deal with themselves then out steps Cap to show 'em how its done. Handy for the missions where support options can not hold objectives and you need to move the infantry.

Then again, its always interesting to see how other gaming groups play systems and the differences that can occur.

Yep that is pretty much how the Sentinels should be used, I still find them too expensive to include 9 out of 10 times. The constant problem of expensive single models like the Sentinels or the Vampire in the game is whether or not they are able to grind the enemy to get their points worth back or be useful enough for multiple purposes to include anyway. Some units in the game are very expensive and could really do with a RP decrease (some with an increase for sure as well).
