M-14 USMC

Hi folks, does any on know of a maker of good 28mm US Marines armed with M-14 rifles in stead of the M-16.  I want to do some early Vietnam War figures.

 Short answer is no, well not good anyway.

Jim Hale and I have a bit of a shared wishlist on this subject. I suggest trying a Eureka request if you can live with a long wait. I'd like some for a whole range of things, the Dominican Crisis being but one.

What he said... In fact a whole range of post Korea and pre-1965 US Troops would float my boat. I'm resorting to using WW2 Pacific Marines to fill the gap for my needs.

Perhaps E-bob could be persuaded to do some early war troops : dunno what his intentions are regarding Viet Nam or how extensive a range he is planning to do, but his VC's and LRRP's are beautiful figures.

That would be good. My method works for proxy US types, but the actual US Army and USMC were dressed noticeably differently from their forebears and looked less 'baggy' and more 'squared away' than they did in the jungle fatigues used post '65. The early part of the Vietnam War has not been touched by manufacturers afaik and offers a lot of scope... certainly it might be more challenging than the latter years and more of an adventure for a team of advisers attached to some ARVN troops.

Quite right, it is a more interesting period, at least to me and it's one that's not covered by figure manufacturers in any scale afaik. For those with an interest try reading Phillip Caputo's 'A Rumour of War' about the early US intervention.

Besides E-bob, the Empresses might perhaps be persuaded to give the early war period a go : Tony Boustead can sculpt some mean moderns, as his Afghan war range shows.

I'm a bit surprised at the general lack of of Vietnam USMC with M-14, other than as an afterthought, or mixed with M-16 armed figures in packs. They used it from 1962 through to 1967 (or 1968 according to some) as their primary infantry weapon, so you'd think there'd be more figure ranges carrying them.

Having said that, the ARVN is very under represented in some ranges too, it's almost like they weren't there. What ranges there are are largely M16 armed too, despite the survival of the M-1 Carbine, M-1 & M-3 SMGs, M1 rifles and BARs in many units well into 1968 in most units that weren't part of the general reserve or Airborne and Marine units.

Now where can I get a 1/56th scale Walker Bulldog? Oh... that's something else...
