Wonderful brainstorming guys!  :-*
I will try your advice and get some pics! It is going to become a styrene carving/painting tutorial! lol

@zizi: this is exactly what I have done but with a worst result! That's why I tried to insulate it with vynil glue.  o_o

@Sangennaru: a bit of GW Hawk Turquoise maybe! I have to remember this tip  :P (aaand: about moulds. I'm taking lot of picture in Verona and Bologna: windows, doors, details. As soon as I feel I have enough I'll start drawing and send you some concepts!)

@Meninobesta: thanks mate!  ;) probably a electric drill would help, but this project is literally sucking money from my wallet and even if "cheap" it would be too expansive at this moment!

@phreedh: thanks mate! I will try it, seems a smart solution! :P

@Midismirnoff: maybe in the pic it looks better than in RL but I can assure you it's not a good result. Maybe next time I come in Verona I can bring it and show you that is a fail  lol

Not sure as to why it doesn't work, but I went back to look at your pictures and noticed that the surface you painted is in fact one of your carved sides. Could it be that it wasn't cut clean enough ?
As mentioned before, blunt blades tend to tear the foam while new blades make for an even surface.

Ok, I bought one for 15€ if I recall, it doesn't do half the things a proper drill does but it helps! because it doesn't deform the blue foam when you are carving the bricks, perhaps you can find a cheaper way to do this!

keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Pedro

i bought mine in India, it is a very good jeweler drill, with a lot of precision (and it costed me 7 euros, here is around 35).

but i would'nt suggest any drill for that job! :( cutter and pencil and rock. =(

My thoughts exactly. drilling/milling is good on harder surfaces, never would think of using a mototool on foam, unless somebody proves me wrong ?

do not know but looking some tutorial by Gidian Gelande (http://gidian-gelaende.de/Material_HP/Wolfgang/Tut_Vampirburg/album/index.html  scroll down to see the brick stuff) it seems they use mostly pencil. If pro modeller like them use mostly pencils I think it is probably the best technique  :)

Hi Faber, your project it's a very great challenge but I'm sure will make a big satisfaction!! ;D
I'm from Bologna too!
There's others LAF members from our city?
I'm not a gamer, I'm a Lovecraft fan and a modeller and I find my own way collecting, assembling, painting minis and terrain about my "tentacular passion"!!
I follow specially Cthulhu and Strange Aeons forums but occasionally lurking the others.
One question:
Where I can find foam panels in Bologna?
I see something on Leroy Merlin but was to much thin, only 2 cm I think.
Again compliments for your fantastic works and listen soon. :D
In bocca al lupo (In the mouth of the wolf!!!...) lol

@Midismirnoff: I'm surprised you did not know about Gidian Gelande!  :) Wonderful stuff there. Suggest you to explore their site because it is really a gold mine! :P

@DeafNala: thanks mate! I'm glad you like it!  ;) Slowly but with quality lol

@Tobia Hensen: Thanks mate! happy to see other Bologna LAFers!  :) Do not know other Bologna members but I'm sure you can find someone else hidden opening a new topic: something like "Bologna LAFer"  lol Cthulu it's not my cup of tea but I am always curious to see models! Anyway about your question: LeroyMerlin = shit. Do not want to bee arsh but it's really senseless expensive IMO. I suggest you to go to "building industry megastore" (Italian mode: ON - forniture edilizie). I did not remember exactly where but I will ask Vincenzo where it was. Anyway you have to ask for "estruso di polistirolo" (styrene/bluefoam). If I recall right there was various thickness from 1cm to 6cm.
EDIT: the place was GDE Casalecchio!

After a little stop we are back on the project. Not a big update but we sculpted some new wall and we are pretty happy with the result.
For first we finished to texture the first bit (n.3) with large-bricks style

As you can see from the pic we finally obtain a rocky surface by pressing with fingertips in random direction on the wall. I like it now but I'm curios about your feedback :) What do you think?

Second we have detailed island n.1 with a large-bricks style on a side and with archs and small bricks on the other.

It was not so easy to create archs: cutting in circle is a painstaking job and I have to admit they are not so regular  :`
SO, because of the challenge, we decided to create  SMALLER ARCHS on island n.2 (last one of the first table quarter) but that's just a WIP

What do you think about archs? I think they are lovely  :-*
Finally I would like to show you the progress level for the first quarter with some overviews

What do you think? IMO it's start to workin right. Now we have to finish island n.2 and then first quarter it's finished.
After that we'll have to decide how to go on: start working on the islands of the second quarter or start the street level of the yet sculpted islands? What do you suggest?
C&C welcome as always! :D

looking good so far

I would probably finish the base quarters first then you'll get a clearer idea of what space you have to go up. It will also depend on whether you want the buildings to be removable and interchangeable so you can have different set-ups, or fixed. Have you thought also about how you might store them?

keep going!

Nice detailing of those stones.

BTW : we've got some similar arches just around the corner from where I live.
