Welcome in Rob! :) Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately this has been (and actually is) a sad time for this project. We are studying hard to finish this bloody university and so we have really no time to work on it. BUT the second half of february will be a more relaxed period and the skilled Sangennaru gave us very useful tips about how to pave the islands in a quicker way, so, I swear, we are not abandoning this project. Update as soon as possible!  :)

Cheers

What Sangennaru said, Duncan lol
The second half of February started like a relax period and finished with a move  o_o Now I've finally moved in a new bigger house so it has been a troubled period for me. I'm submerged by cardboard boxes  :`
BUT, in this new house there is a big living room where I'm going to organize a wonderful workbench :D As soon as possible we are going to start with resin and so it won't take too time to finish the pav. After that, painting and water effect. :)
A little time more and you'll see a update  ;)

Here is the update! :D

Finally we were able to work again on this project. We have to say thank you to Maxx, Maxx Von Morton here on LAF, a brilliant pal who helped us to go beyond the stall. It's a real shame that he normally lives in the wrong town! Fortunately in my new house I have a sumptuos ikea sofa/bed so he will come back here in Bologna to help us  lol

BTW, to the topic!
Faber&Calopide are proud to say that the pav is almost finished! We have to craft only the biggest central island and paving is done :)
Let's have a look on the map:

Here's the new finished island.
Calopide, as known as "Flagstone Hero", finished the dock island:

then we finished islands 9-11 with a mixed pattern:

then islands 7-6:

Well, that's all. What do you think guys? More suggests for the central island pattern?
C&C always welcome!

cheers
Faber

Not bad, man!
These pics are far better than those i sent you, and really show the good job we did!
I'm looking to came back for the "detalis" session and, of course, the "painting"  ;D

I think the idea of a central round decoration in the middle of the main island is cool. Maybe geometrical, or some kind of heraldic logo (did anyone said "della Scala"?  ;)).

See ya, man!

E salutami Calopide!

Eheh, I take them after seeing yours!  lol
You have to tell me the next time that you have a couple of free days doc! And thanks again for the big help ;)

The idea for the central island pattern is still the same: a central square with a round decoration in the middle. And obviously the heraldic logo of della Scala! :) But as always suggest are welcome.

Calopide ricambia i saluti!

cheers

That looks really cool!! I might have to copy you for a wee idea I'm thinking of doing! How long did it take you to do all that marking? I take it you press some indents into it with your fingers first then score the pattern on it!

Keep up the good work guys this is going to be good!!

Feel free to copy whatever you want pal! :) We are here to share.
The bad news is that this kind of work is really really time consuming. Especially the irregular flagstone pattern, it really takes hours to be done, even on "small" surfaces. The diamond or square patterns are way easier.

The process:
1) press your fingers here and there on the smooth surface. Avoid "single" holes, better to press the same surface more than once from different directions.  Obviously the result depends from the material you have. Zizi666 (if I recall right) suggested on this thread to use aluminium foil wrapped around a pencil to obtain the rocky shape. Can't hurt to try.
2) mark down the pattern you want by using a big thootpick. You have to use it tilting it almost in parallel to the surface you are working on. You have to mark hard but not to carve.
3) detailing :) Cracks apart (it's exactly the same of drawing!), I press gently the last 0,5 cm of the toothpick on some brick to add micro inequality that I hope will be cool for the future drybrush.
I hope this helps! If people are interested I could prepare a tutorial :)
