Zombie Game Soundtrack Suggestions
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:31:32 PM »
So, after the remarkable success of my friend's decision to play a collection of Kodo Drum CDs during his Battlestar Galactica battles game, it's been generally decided that the right music adds an extra something to a staged miniatures game.

I'm slowly assembling the figures and terrain for a series of modern urban zombie games* and I need suggestions for the soundtrack. Here's what I've got so far, split irregularly between "Stark Orchestral" and "Metal for Danger" pieces:

Adagio for Strings, Samuel Barber
"Down with the Sickness" Disturbed
"Click Click Boom" Saliva
"The Man Comes Around" Johnny Cash

* slowly, since I'm also a new homeowner, and the package on that never tells you "Some Assembly Required"
from Mr.Vampire: "It's the paintjob that makes the miniature fight harder not the size."

Our group plays  Last Night on Earth quite a bit and we use the music CD that came with it.  It definitely sets the mood and they sell it separately here

Hope that helps.

I have a few news ones to add for mood music but it might not be everyone's 'cup of tea':

New Daft punk Tron Score
Inception

The Cramps first record;' Songs the Lord Taught Us',including such songs as 'Zombie Dance' and 'Garbage Man'. A classic record in my humble opinion :D

Or this one from Jan Davis

Most the songs I am listing are more along the lines of psyching (pumping) you up to give you some confidence to face the zombies. I have thrown in a couple songs just for laughs, and you will know what they are when you see them.

Iron Maiden's Trooper (mentioned by Max Brooks in World War Z about the music being played before the battle of Hope, New Mexico)

Also by Iron maiden:
Run for the Hills
Man on the Edge
Fear of the Dark
Bring your Daughters to the Slaughter
Can I Play With Madness

Blue Öyster Cult- (Don't) Fear the Reaper

Alice Cooper- Welcome to my Nightmare the Album (anything off of this album is good, specifically Welcome to my Nightmare and Cold Ethyl, who doesn't love a song about a little necrophilia in the zompocalypse, LOL, and yes I am joking, Necrophilia is wrong no matter what the situation is).

AC/DC-
TNT
Highway to Hell

Metallica-
Master of Puppets (Album)
Ride the Lightning (Album)

Led Zeppelin- Immigrant Song

Dennis Leary- @sshole (yes this is an actual song that he preforms, and it could be a great song for gangers/raiders)

Megadeth- Count Down to Extinction (Album)

Ray Parker Jr.- Ghostbusters (because who you gonna call, LOL)

Men Without Hats- Safety Dance (because if your friends don't dance then they are no friends of mine)

Queen-
Another One Bites the Dust
We are the Champions
Princes of the Universe
Who Wants to Live Forever
Don't Lose your Head
Keep Yourself Alive

Scorpions- Rock You Like a Hurricane

Ted Nugent- Cat Scratch Fever

Rocky Horror Picture Show-
The Time Warp
Sweet Transvestite (4 words, Tim Curry in Drag, LOL, good luck gettign that image out of your head now, LOL)
Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me
Super Heroes
(ok I admit it the entire album is worth if just for the laughs)

The Who-
Baba O'Riley
Won't Get Fooled Again
Behind Blue Eyes (I have to include this because it is such a great song)

"Weird" Al Yankovic-
I'll be Mellow When I am Dead
Germs
Truck Driving Song (Just imagine that big Burly Trucker driving around in Drag, sorry first Tim Curry now this, though you have to admit it the song is funny, and well worth the laughs you would get from the group, and No I don't have a thing for guys in Drag this and Sweet Transvestite are both meant for the laughs, and you have to admit in a zompocalypse the laughs would be needed)
Spam (the food of any Post Apocalypse, the one item that will outlast even the cockroaches, LOL)

ZZ Top- Gun Love

Kenny Loggins- Danger Zone

Johnny Cash-
The Man Comes Around (already mentioned)
Hurt (same album as The Man Comes Around, American IV- The man Comes Around
(Ghost) Riders in the Sky

Bruce Springsteen-
Dead Man Walkin'
Viva Las Vegas (though even the Elvis Presley version would be good, especially if in your game you either go through Vegas or take refuge in a casino)

Bon Jovi- Wanted Dead or Alive

Bad Company- Bad Company

Beastie Boys-
Fight for Your Right
Brass Monkey (come on we all know that the Brass Monkey is that Funky Monkey)

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band- 16 shells from a 30-6

Flock of Seagulls- I Ran

Carl Douglas- Kung Fu Fighting

D@mn Yankees- Don't Tread on Me

The Doors- The End

Eric Clapton- I Shot the Sheriff

George Thorogood- Bad to the Bone

Hazel Fernandes- Number one (from the Bleach an Soundtrack)

Meatloaf-
Good Girls go to Heaven (Bad Girls go Everywhere)
Back Into Hell

Rammstien- I have the Sehnsucht album and even though i don't speak German and can't understand what they are saying, I think it has a beat that would get you pumped up if you were facing a zombie hoard, primarily the song Du Hast

Lynyrd Skynyrd- Freebird (a great song, and in my opinion way better then Sweet Home Alabama, that I will listen to anywhere, anytime)

Most these are actually the songs I have on a list that if a Zombie Apocalypse were to happen I would be listening to, though I would probably listen to anything and everything on my iPod (if I was able to keep it charged). Some were added for the comic relief (Cold Ethyl, Sweet Transvestite, The Truck Driving Song, Ghost Busters, just to name a few), you need some songs that will cause a "What" reaction, and laughs, you cant keep everything serious, plus in the case of the Truck Driving Song and Sweet Transvestite, you will have some cross dressers who are turned into Zombies in a Zompocalypse, so they need their own theme songs, LOL.

There was an Aussie group called "The Snowman" who did an album called "Zombies on the Airwaves of Paris" or something like that. Quite good stuff, sort of like Blackwolf's contribution up a few posts. A little more contemporary though, made in the last 10 years ;) I think I have a copy here...

Be Your Own Pet  - Ouch

This song basically describes the Zombie Apocalypse from Dawn of the Dead in a somewhat upbeat, punky style. Very cool if you're into that kind of music ;)

Also, Richard Cheese's cover of "Down with the Sickness" for those comedic moments.

The Moldy Peaches - NYC's like a Graveyard

The "28 days - " and "- weeks later" soundtrack, especially "Rage, "The Tunnel" and "In the House / In a Heartbeat".

Just last year the band The Devil Wears Prada released their "Zombie EP."  If you enjoy a little screamo, check it out.  I also think most of Coheed and Cambria's stuff would be appropriate...I've used that during zombie games.

Return of the Living Dead soundtrack, best zed soundtrack by far!

Anything from the band Goblins from the 70s preferably from Argento's Deep Red or Susperia flicks.

Wow. Nobody's mentioned the Misfits? About three-quarters of their stuff involved zombies or basic monster movie strangeness. "Astro Zombies," "Braineaters" ... Just do a YouTube search and go from there.

My musical tastes actually run a little narrow, but off the top of my head:

The Koffin Kats - "Splatterhouse," and about 95-percent of their stuff.

Mad Sin - "Revenge" - Inspired by Evil Dead 2

I've posted this somewhere here before but, can't forget The Creepshow:

This song's catchy as all get-out... and I must admit the singer's quite nice to look at.  ;)

I second the Return of the Living Dead soundtrack. TSOL, woo!

And no mention yet of "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" by the Drowning Pool, I am surprised.  Or on a lighter note "The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!
