I think if Major General Tremorded was alerted to this thred, and could 'feel the love' he might be inspired to give it anothe go. I am amazed how many people feel the same way about the web site as I do.

Great point.  Can someone point him this way?

Where's my broom handled Mauser......

The major general's site was also the first place where I came among other things across a broom handled Mauser.

The Major General's site is one of my favorites!!

Hopefully this hasn't already been posted, but you can still access it via the "Way Back Machine" Internet Archive here:

Thanks for the way back machine link.
I would support the site resurfacing.
It was full of inspiring stuff.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Just a note to ease the passage to the esteemed Major-General's site. Wayback sometimes refreshes again and again when clicking on the link above without seeming to make a connection. If you look to the lower right of that page, you'll see a link marked Impatient? Clicking on it will take you straight through.  :)

Quite agree, he's a legend to many of us. Let's find him, tell him and bully convince him to keeping it going.

So we going to chase David Helber or the server co. Zeitgeist Comms? Anyone tried the email address?

Perhaps chase all the individuals here? http://web.archive.org/web/20090101165744/http://zeitcom.com/majgen/02group.html

Or perhaps a FB group?

He already has guys - he posted on the Colonial Wars Yahoo Group two months or so ago and confirmed he is committed to getting the site back up as soon as he has the chance - several people including myself also offered to host the site for him if he needed - but he indicated he had that sorted. It's down because of an issue with the business and/or a bad experience with his web administrator who was maintaining the business site or something along those lines IIRC.

From David Helbers' post to the Yahoo Group (6 April 2011):

Quote
There is no cause for panic, Gentlemen Adventurers.

A courier reports that the Major-General is still secure in his
headquarters at Tel al Taradidl. The lack of communication is entirely
due to the industry of the local tribes in cutting the telegraph line.
Repair crews and mounted patrols are being organized to deal with the
difficulty. Expect a resumption of service soon.

 -----

In more prosaic terms, Zeitcom's hireling website coder-maintainer has
left undone those things which he ought to have done. Furthermore, he
has apparently vanished with all the tools for their correction, as all
of Alan's attempts to reach him remain unanswered. Unless he resurfaces,
there will be considerable sorting out to do.

Alan and I have agreed that the best thing to do is permanently to move
the Maj. General's site to my own server space, and set a pointer from
the old to the new location whenever the Zeitcom pages become accessible
again. Alan has carried the M-G's site on his server space since the
beginning, and deserves a round of raised glasses for his generosity.

There is no problem with the files and photos - they are backed up in
multiplicate. But I am facing some mundane but serious deadlines and
responsibilities at the moment, which will prevent me from doing the
editing and uploading for at least a week and more likely two. Once the
site is up, I may ask your help in replacing the deadwood links with
those for current manufacturers and personal sites of good quality,
since I have been largely out of touch with the hobby for some years. I
have noted people's kind offers to provide mirror sites, and will
probably take advantage of one of those offers. I am hoping the sudden
necessity of working with the site again will spur me to complete some
of the modest updates which I have planned for it over the last several
 years.

Heartfelt thanks for all the concern and the kind words from admirers of
the site. Please rest assured I will not let the Major General's Page
vanish in the foreseeable future. Though admittedly I have been
neglectful of it, I love it as much as you do.
