Giant Steam-Walker planned... but what period???
« on: 17 May 2011, 11:42:10 AM »
Hi all.

I'm designing a new four-legged walker along the lines of my two-legged one (http://colonelotruth.blogspot.com/p/doktor-schleissbaums-steam-walker.html) but I can't decide whether to go mostly wooden (Napoleonic 'Lacepunk') or iron and rivets (VSF)

Any suggestions?

This is just for fun - I have no games in mind for it.

I hadn't seen your two-legged leviathan. It looks incredible!

Great plan, Gamer Mac! Come to think of it, is there anything else I can build just to give it away? I've always been the charitable type...

Oh, hang on... No... That was my puritanical twin. I'm the evil, selfish type! Build your own walker!

 ;)

Anything as long it is big enough to cross the Tasman in. That would be pretty cool, and then we could play soldiers.

Do you think you could do a diary of sorts? The things that people find to use in these sorts of projects and the way they use them are fascinating. Oh ace walker by the way.  :D

Hi Breaker.

I've started taking pics of all my projects as they progress. I'm keeping a diary of-sorts for the big dinosaur I'm converting for HOTT and I'll do the same for the new walker. It will probably have a page of its own on my blog when it's done.

Thanks, by the way!

I personally think these tend to be able to work for either genre', but if you're asking on VSF list...   lol

While Victorian engineering tended to depend on the (sort of) new magic material, iron, there were still plenty of occasions to depend on wood. I point out that the western ACW navies were dominated by timberclads.

Heck, what is being argued on TMP as the finest all purpose fighter plane of WWII, the Mosquito, was mostly wood.

Looking forward to detailed developments!

Could I have your puritanical twin's eMail addie, by the way?  :D

Doug
