Dragons suitable for 15mm
« on: 21 June 2011, 09:44:04 AM »
Hi!

I am looking for dragon figures suitable for 15mm gaming. Most of the 15mm ranges that offer dragons are not for my taste and to be honest there aren't too many available. Because dragons are HUGE I am quite sure that some other scales have suitable minis for 15mm scale and here's where I need your advise :)

Does any of you have any manufacturers to recommend?

-Mika

Indeed I do, one of my favourites actually! =)

Splintered Lights in the US have some old Metal Magic dragons, giants and other critters that would be MASSIVE for 15 mm. They're quite cheap (12-15 bucks), and all metal. Plus Dave at SL is a solid bloke. =D

You can see some comparison pics here, with the MM giants compared to a 28mm 80s Citadel paladin and a Marauder troll. That in turn can serve as a comparison with the minis listed over at Splintered Lights.

I also got the wyvern and jabberwocky when I bought the giants. They're friggin massive! The wyvern is equal to the late 80s marauder wyvern. Wasn't so sure about some of the dragons, thought they'd be a tad small for 28mm. In retrospect I should've gotten them all - they're definitely big enough for medium sized 28 mm dragons and some of them would be humongous 15 mm dragons.

I will second the Splintered Light Mini ones. I have just put in an order for another couple of Dragons from them. I now wish that I had also gotten the Jabberwocky - oh well, next order.  :D

I have also heard good things about the Dennis Mize (sp?) dragons from Dark Sword Miniatures - although mostly referencing them for 10mm scale usage. So maybe good for smaller dragons in 15mm??

Cheers,
Ben.

A lot of the smaller pre-slotta dragons are great for 15mm. The one of the far right is an old grenadier, the wyvern and "blue dragon" are available from Ral Partha Europe.

I like the green-stuff amendments you have made there blackstone. The extra bulk added to the left hand one's rump really makes a difference.

Thank you all for help :)

There seems to be a nice selection of dragons to be used with 15mm scale. I think I even had some of those in the past...

A bit late I know, but I was going to sugggest the old Grenadier ones, still avaliable from Mirliton. They should be suitably imposing in 15mm  :D

How about some of the old Citadel dragons, available in the Collectors Range on GW's site.

Typical GW prices but they might work nicely for 15mm.

I have one of these sitting in the leadpile undercoated, which I always thought was a nice model:

Old grenadier storm dragon. Too small for use with present day 30mm figures, but would look great with 15mm.
