Hi all,

at the Scarborough convention on Saturday, I purchased some Fantasy miniatures for a change, including a set of the splendid Four A Miniatures goblins. Wonderful little fellows, charmingly old-fashioned in the design style, but up-to-date concerning sculpting and casting quality - excellent value for money.

Anyway, here is the first set of five. I've got six more which I will paint over the course of the week, and a handful of Harlequin Goblins (looking like Kev Adams sculpts, too, although I might be mistaken) which should work next to these (apart from the fact that the Four A figures sport the most darling couture fashioned from lizardskin, whereas the Harlies are more "traditional", albeit well-armoured).

I envisage them as a kind of raiding party, or dungeon-dwellers. As for the skintone, I am not that fond of the "greenskin" approach, and always preferred the more leathery varieties. I'll probably paint the next ones with a bit more olive tinted into the mix, but keep the more "fleshy" overall tone.

Also, from the Dave Thomas scrounging bin, I got a handful of figures (a pound each), the first of which is Halburga, the Valkyrie:

Wargames Foundry, if I am not mistaken, and an outrageously funny figure to paint. Inspiration was quite easy to come by, too, as I merely had to look out of the window on a Saturday night in this Northern Town. ;)

Lovely work on the goblins - mine are languishing somewhere in the paint queue...

Halburga looks pretty fearsome as well!

Great work on these chris.Very quickly done too.Love the different skin coulour to the normal green's that have been used on other goblins.

The foundry miniature is very well done too.Love the gem work.

Kev did the Goblins for Harlequin and also some dwarves too.

Lovely work on the gobbos, it's great to see the variety of colours that people have painted them. I'll have to dig out the photos of the set I painted (before I finish the next batch!) to share. :D

Very nice Chris  :-* 8)

I've never been to keen on the 'fleshy' colour for goblins but you've pulled it off for these  8)

WOW!  :o Those goblins are superb! Never really paid much attention to the Four A Minis before but they are certainly something different from the usual take on goblins. Nice to see something original for a change & made even better by your wonderful painting. I might have to nab myself a few for my next game of Skulldred  :D
...and what fresh new hell is this?

Thanks! I am really happy with this purchase (and am encouraging others to purchase copious amounts from Four A, so that we can see more releases soon!  :D), and am currently painting the next batch of five (and a sea demon, those are hilarious, too).

A note on scale (which I forgot to add previously): The goblins are mounted on 20mm round slotta bases which fit them quite nicely. Most of the ones I got were supplied with 20mm squares, but I prefer round ones for skirmish gaming (and am no longer of that age where you have the time and enthusiasm to paint whole armies); still, I think they look better on the small round slottas than on standard 25s.

You did a TERRIFIC job bringing some GREAT minis to life. The Rubenesque Babe is LOVELY...she looks like she can actually wield her weapons & is bloody-minded enough to do so quite effectively...a fine choice of colors.
As a Goblin Guy, I LOVE your take on those Oh-So-Cool Lads. After years of doing my Goblins of various types in green, I'm returning to other skin shades; I really like how your flesh tones look. All VERY WELL DONE!
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

:-* I love the slightly wizened looking skin you've got on that magic user; it's so characterful!
