have had a thought...

Quote from: anevilgiraffe back on page 10

oh, and I kept the cork board on the other side - I plan to use that for urban/industrial terrain...

rather than progress with urban/industrial on the other side (which is not progressing at all), I still have more of the mat, I'm thinking on the pros and cons of doing that side as grass with a dirt road... the cork should allow the road to be quite reasonably sunken, but am aware that could cause the overall structure to get a bit wibbly.

alternatively, total grass on the cork side, but the cork would allow flexi roads to be added with pins (suitably disguised pin heads), the mat should survive the occassionaly pin, and it's what the cork is designed for afterall...

a little WIP, undecided on hair, also need to get some different heads...

as I had the idea for him, he became affectionately known as John Wootton in my head, although I quite like the nickname The Apostle as well... I had thought of Red Right Hand as well, but that fits more of a organisation, so will save that for my Church hunters.

I think I may get some of the Westwind saxon/pict heads to see if they will work.

I know this seems like it's slowing down, but by god that chimney is a pain... getting there, but it's just slow... a fair bit of timbering is already done, and then it's tiles, which has got me thinking the roof is rather a large surface with little of interest happening... so maybe, just maybe some more dormer windows...

thinking of one along the corridor to the main bedrooms here:

and maybe one in the attic - haven't a suitable pic at the mo, so roughly in the corner of the roof join, facing off camera to the left:

I figured this could be handy, and game wise it would be fun to have folks going out windows, over the roof and in another window... thoughts?

Sorry, mate.
Digging later....

no worry  :D

I don't know if this is of interest to any following this, but I've just asked 4ground if they think about doing a sheet of just windows, rather than with the doors and ladders and such... of course I need a lot of windows, but as they are so handy I can't see that they wouldn't be a good seller and of use to any modeller, if interest needs to be gauged I'll let you know.

Windows would certainlt seem like a sensible addition to their range, especially for those building Old West stuff (like I am... ::)).

well windows are on the cards it seems - they will be cut from two sheets and supplied with acetate to do glass sandwiched between them, apparently some of the Wild West range they have already have this window style...

Store the acetate in a sealed bag with your superglue if you want it to look more 'ancient' or frosted.

Ok, timbering done, need to do the curved corner timbers, some distressing with the wire brushes, inevitable g/s repairs, then window sills from matchsticks and the rendering... and tiles, getting a bit worried about the roof tiles now, the cobbled together nature of my build may not lend itself very well to lots and lots of narrow horizontal lines...

And, added a couple of dormer windows for the attic to the rear of the house, decided the roof was to much of a featureless expanse and windows looking down into a courtyard at the rear would make sense for a working inn. The chimney was a bit of a bugger, initially it was much thicker, but decided to narrow it down, stil undecided on the top, a couple of pots are possible. Also, I'd initially placed the breaks level with the floor breaks, but this meant exactly matching that, so it was easier to make the break higher up, so each floors chimney extends into the next floor - this also helps serve as anchor points for each floor, as do the attic dormers.

There is also a little detail on the end of the main part of the building, a vent for an internal smoke bay, which would be under the stairs to the attic. This does serve a purpose for when the rear room on the ground floor is kitted out to be a kitchen. Planning you see...

I need to get some figures painted soon though, been a while and starting to get that itch, especially with Dr Payne from Heresy and today being, well, you know...
