Painting Zombies....my take.
« on: November 10, 2007, 08:00:00 PM »
Gluteus Maximus was asking about how I do my zombie flesh:

Dead flesh:

Catachan Green/Vaj us army olive green.
highlighted up with light grey and Catchan green,
washed with purple/black.
Teeth/eyes Vaj ivory

Freshly munched:

elf flesh, overwashed with black/purple/red wash 1:2:1 mix
highlighted with elf flesh, rotting flesh mix.

Grey/rotting flesh, inked black/purple/red

Another freshly muched combo:

Purple ink over grey primer, then drybrush up with elf flesh/rotting flesh. gives a nice recently munched finish.

More purity seal to be added.

Hope this helps all you budding necromancer's out there!

Thanks very much!

I see it's almost all in the washes, then.

You use combinations I'd never have thought of. Happily, though I'm not much of a painter, I do have all the shades of paint & ink you use.

Now I just need to discover how to get another couple of hours into a day, to give me time to practice

Cheers,
Ian

It is curious... I also use Purple wash over a Flesh basecoat for my zombies... I then add red and green touches here and there to simulate gore and dirt.

I think the effect is very good.

Here are some Copplestone Zombie Troopers followed by a GW-based one

And more GW-based here

If they'd were not so oversized, I'd bought many GW zombie boxes for my zombie games...

Nice paint job. I appreciate the break down of colors used. I haven't tried purple inking before. It is also interesting to see that someone else combined the old 1st gen Imperial Guard plastics with the later WFB zombies.

Agreed - the old figures are a lot better than the current ones - if only because the weapons are a more realistic size and they do combine very well with the newer zombies.

another idea to steal
