Foundry African Books

Out of interest does any LAF member who have the above books knows if any cover the Matebele, British South African Company etc.

Colonial Armies: Africa 1850 to 1918 by Peter Abbott covers the British in Matabeleland (in a very small section of a big book, though). Unfortunately it doesn't cover native armies. I find it an invaluable volume myself, as it covers all the Colonial powers and all of Africa. But if your interest is very specific, it might not be for you.

The Matabele aren't covered by any of the Foundry books as yet, as far as I know. They haven't done a Southern Africa book in the Chris Peers series yet.

This looks like a beaut of a book but the cheapest i can find is for £100 and thats a bit rich for my pocketbook.

Yeah, you have to grab those Foundry books when you see them, the price (they aren't exactly cheap to begin with) always rockets once they go out of print, and the print runs are small.

I just checked in on this conversation, but wanted to let you know that I just ordered the Central Africa book from Foundry at 50% off including shipping to the states a few days ago.  I have purchased from Foundry previously on the website, perhaps this is a special offer for past customers, but check it out.

It's a general sale, 50% off loads of things. Today is the last day of the sale according to an email I got this morning (but you never know with them). The Central Africa book is quite new, so they still have copies of that one. Don't see any of the other African ones there, unfortunately.

I didn't have a chance to check for any other Africa books either, since I already had the Colonial Armies book.  Nice to experience a price break anytime we can get one!  Good luck, hope it works out for everyone!

Thanks for the heads up yancy.  Shame i'd already ordered the book from whsmith but it was only £5 more so not the end of the world.  Ordered some sale price Zulu Chiefs to make me feel better about it

Sorry to hear you had some additional overhead on the book, the miniature discounts make it easy on the pocket book though too, I added some African warriors with hideous masks to round my order out.

Glen Lyndon dodds...Arms and Armour press 1998 which gives a good

some good info...........pm me if you would like any snail mail snippets

eg there is a reasonable account of the battle of Bembesi...Maxim guns

against warriors and fishing spears...gulp!!

trust this is what you want ...outside of Rorkes drift im a blank!!!
