Valdez is coming....Burt Lancaster is great.
The Cowboys.....one of the few where John Wayne dies.
The Shootist....the other one where John Wayne dies.
True Grit........(Both versions)
Unforgiven.........Eastwood and Morgan Freeman, wow. Great use of out of the ordinary weapons.
The outlaw Josey Wales. Pale Rider, and High Plains Drifter, (like above but without Morgan Freeman).
The Seven Samurai, oops I mean The Magnificent Seven.
The Missing, Cate Blanchet and Tommy lee Jones.

Maybe another thread would be best shootouts in a western, which would have to have Tombstone, (the river and the OK corral) Open Range, 3:10 to Yuma,

If the list were for seven magnificent western movies that would make it a bit easier - the Magnificent seven would be covered by the title.

There has to be at least one Wayne movie, I'd probably opt for The Searchers, although any of the Ford cavalry trilogy could be a good option.
Also The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance to get James Stewart.
Probably High Noon and My darling Clementine to bring Gary Cooper and Henry Fonda onto the list.
Possibly Dodge City to include Errol Flynn in the list.

For purely sentimental reasons I would include Stagecoach, the Wayne version, because it reminds me of my father. He saw it when it was first released whilst on shore leave. I never did find out where, but it was always one of his favourite films.

That gets me to six without even choosing something special.

Its cheating to bring these guys in to the pictures, and makes the choises even harder.

However, with the above in mind I am not sure I can pick any that I prefer. However, I love spagetti westerns and hence they must be in the lead.
Tintin - Pulp Adventures in a orderly fashion
Gallows Falls - Western Village
Eisende - Mordheim costal village WIP
Rome - SPQR & Hail Caesar

7? Should be more like 70. A lot of movies I really like have been mentioned already, so here are some other good ones I think have been missed. Shanghai Noon, and Rising Sun, with Charles Bronson. I just watched that one on TV a couple of days ago. Also Six Mules for Sister Sarrah.

I'm seeing a lot of old favourites cropping up in this thread and some I will have to see.
Well, my list looks like this:
'For a Fistful of Dollars'
'For a Few Dollars More'
'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'
'Hang 'em High'
'The Wild Bunch'
'The Magnificent Seven'
I'm going to add 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' as number 7, it was the first Western I saw. Even if I was baffled as a young fellow that the hero was fighting 'good guys'...  lol

Ok,  I will join in...

Stagecoach (1939) ..  could easily be "The" western movie
Big Jake (...."I thought you was dead"... gun blast...  "not hardly") my favorite John Wayne
Tombstone (Val Kilmer steals it)
Magnificent 7 (the theme music alone is killer)
Silverado
Unforgiven

maybe lesser known, but still among my favorites

Winchester 73  (Jimmy Stewart) good angry vengeful Stewart
Man from Laramie (Jimmy Stewart)
Fastest Gun Alive  (Glen Ford)
Sheepman (Glen Ford)  doesn't like to be told what to do
San Antonio (Errol Flynn)
Ride the High Country (Randolph Scott's last movie)  iconic as a western and for its decade (1962)
5 card stud  (Dean Martin)  I can't defend it as a great western, but I can't hel;p but love it.
Support your Local Sheriff (James Garner)  silly but fun

I could list another 20 or more I could readily watch again.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Wild Bunch
The Magnificent Seven
The Quick And The Dead
Once Upon a Time in the West

No-one chose Brokeback Mountain....?    :D

I'm glad to see a few votes for The Assasination of Jesse James etc 'cos I bought it at a bargain price yesterday without knowing a thing about it. Once I've seen it, I can choose my 7.
