Need help finding suitable dwarf shields
« on: October 07, 2011, 11:59:17 AM »
Need help from the wise people of LAF. Need help finding some suitable shields for my Marauder/White Knight Dwarfs.

Dont like the flat round dwarf stronghold ones GW and Marauder did. Don't really suit the Renaissance-look IMO.

Want blank shields without any details.

Shape-wise I'm looking for round but slightly curved shields - but also some more "knightly"/heater shields (as in romantic fantasy "knightly" ;)) shaped ones. Need them small though. Not more than 11-12mm wight (max 18mm height).

Any suggestions?

What about these from Hasslefree:

They're pretty nice and are 'dwarf shields' to boot so should be the right scale.

Mine are supposed to be renaissance bucklers, but ok...  :)

I have some of those on the way, but if you can't wait, look at bits sellers on ebay (like hoard of bits) for empire statetrooper shields. They are small and might be what you are after.

@dijit
Did have a good look at them, but will prefer blank/plain ones without any details - but if I fail finding some these will probably be used. Kev do very suitable ones in the two dwarf weapon packs, but at £1.50 for a shield .. well! .. that probably not going to happen ;)

@WK
You keep saying that, but you know how I fell about them ;) - but don't hold back showing me the alternatives ::) And  it's probably due to that I want a slight more medieval fell to the cavalry, I guess.

And haven't found any useful ones in the current GW plastics yet. And would prefer metal ones to be honest. Should it be plastic I'll probably start looking for old MM "fighter" ones. But won't be that easy, Im afraid :(

Hi!
I have a buch of the old style bent GW shields displaying heraldic knightly symbols like lions and griffons.

how many would you need and
do you have anything in exchange?

Thanks for your generous ofer - and pretty sure we could find out something, but right now I'll be focusing on any metal alternatives without any icons or details. Hope that's okay, and your offer still stands, if I fail.

@lowtardog
Musketeer ..? Not such a bad idea. No pictures of the shield pack, but guess it's the same you find on the infantry. Think I just found the round ones, thanks ;)

Well, this is an old WIP, they've been tweaked slightly since (and made thinner). For an idea of size, the round one is the one currently in the packs.

No need to give me any more advice about. Exactly what I had in mind for more knightly shields. Any idea when they will be ready?

Thanks for all your help.

At the very latest when the knights are ready, but sooner if I have a spare slot on a mould before (I think I should be able to include them on the production mould for the upcoming command figures).

Clam,

I stumbled into a large lot of the old Marauder Dwarf shields if they are of interest to you...they are not blank though.  Also I have some of the ones that came with the Marauder Fighter/empire figs if you can't find anything else.

Cheers,

Blue

Just a small update how this here turned out.

Picked up the round shields from Musketeer and then I found some beautiful metal heater shields at Miniature-heroes.co.uk (and some lovely lances):

Perfect for the job. Thanks for all your help (and also to you Blue, as I will still be using your GW plastics too ;)

And a small teaser of a coming painting Pickford project ;P
