Hi there

Our Danish homegrown ruleset for WWI miniatures air combat has for over 10 years lived a silent life as there has been no suitable plastics minis that would work with our 4 foot carbon fibre flight stands.

We are currently translating the rules to English and we will publish the core rules and some missions as a free pdf in about two months time.

And we are working with a pair of 3D designers to produce a range of 3D printed miniatures available through Shapeways (a 3D printing service):
The first Sopwith Camels has arrived
http://www.shapeways.com/model/346402/1_350_sopwith_camel.html?gid=sg85287

Also available is an SSW D.III:

A Friederichshafen G.III bomber:

http://www.shapeways.com/model/364461/fdh_giii_in_1_350th_scale_in_clouds_of_glory.html?gid=sg91179

And a lot of other planes are coming soon: SPAD XIII, SSW.DIV, Albatrosses, SE5as, Pfalzes. All major types in the period 1917-1918 will be covered as well as some exotics such as the Roland D.VIb.

More on the game and heaps of photo rich session reports at the Geek:

Great looking planes. Nice to see that your rules are being translated to english, and I am very fascinated with your 4 foot carbon fibre flight stands.

Overall it looks AWESOME!

SHOCKED.

Gonna make some shapeways build too, asap... :P

EDIT: Any ruler for a size comparison? Just to understand the actual size... :)

Thanks!

If you look at the pic with the green cutting mat there is some white measurement squares. Those are 50mm X 50mm. That means that a single seater like the Albatros D.Va has a wing span of about 23mm. The Pfalz D.XII has a span of about 27mm. The bombers has a span of just about 70 mm.

Thes pics say a lot:

And here you can see the Centimeter/Milimeter grid:

Simply Awesome. are the tanks 3d printed as well?

No, but it would be easy to make them as 3D prints.

The tanks are cast in 2 component resin in a mould made from this styrene model:

Here they are with infantry made from Hasegawa 1/350 ship crew:

In the future we would no doubt print them instead.

You know? you can do MAGICS with styrene, i'm shocked!
Not talking about the level of detail, but the ability to semplicize much more complex shapes in something so clean and effective!

I totally love that!

So you're the guys behind Kampfflieger models? Lovely stuff. I saw these models on Shapeways and thought they would be great for ICOG  lol

Will keep an eye on them.

Hi Nuno

Yes, we communicate with both Kampfflieger and ColinWe (http://www.shapeways.com/shops/wow. Producing 1/350 at a high rate - with more good stuff on the way.. What we have to deliver is some rules in English so there will be a demand.

We will have a rough draft of the UK ruleset finished by end December if anyone would like to read and comment? We would relly appreciate it. When the UK ruleset is out, we will offer it as a free pdf download and the Danish language version will be terminated.

Hi Svend,

I'm really looking forward to try the rules. Have been trying to convince a friend of mine to get on this project but no luck so far but there are other club members that may be interested though.

I'm an arquitect and have a longtime experience in 3D design and model terrain and have a friend in the RC models business that can provide carbon rods at a good price so things are looking good.

I've been toying with the idea of using Shapeways for a couple of projects but now I need to find/make decals for the planes...

Cheers,

Nuno

Hi Nuno

As a way to start out i would suggest: Buying a couple of planesets on shapeways - Albatroses and Spads for example. Paint up a couple of flat boards in green and try out the rules with friends and the club.

As for rods - They are easy to get by - plenty of suppliers like this:http://www.aeroshack.co.uk/shop/gbu0-prodshow/CFR_1-5mm.html
Prices around 2 € apiece. You will need around 10 for a big combat.

As for decals - others has asked and here is some links:

Doms decals 1/300-1/600 scale:https://sslrelay.com/www.domsdecals.com/sess/utn154ed943a33380b/shopdata/index.shopscript

http://www.i-94enterprises.com/decal_selection.htm They insignia in other sizes suitable for example bombers and two seaters they also has some very neat letters, symbols and checkers usable for a lot of neat detailing.

Doug Baumann has custom made his very neat lozenge patterns for 1/350: http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/db-decals/52802-lozenge-more.html

We will design a sheet with numbers and squadron insignia (for example french Storks and Cockerels and German personal pilot insignia) with Doug when we get to it.
