Any ideas for putting together Mantic Halloween German Zombies?
« on: 09 November 2011, 01:51:46 PM »
This post might be better suited to the Weird War board, but as it is about Zombies I put it here. If the Mods are so inclined they are welcome to move it to Weird War...

I just received my pack of Mantic's Halloween Specials German Zombies  (i.e. Mantic zombie sprues and Warlord Games Germans Sprues).

http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Halloween-Specials/Product/German-Zombies.html

I have also just added the freebie Mantic Ghoul Sprue that came with Darker Horizons. Now I need to think through how I want to put these guys together. The promotion said they make up 10 german zombies, but I think with a little ingenuity I should be able to get a few extras out of them.

Anyway, has anyone got any they have put together that they would like to show off, as I am looking for some inspiration?

This may finally kick start my long gestating WWW2 project. I already have some of Amazon Miniatures female german troopers, some Victory Force Germans with IR nightlights and a few other odds and ends...

Nice work, certainly gives me a few ideas.

I see Reaper Minatures do a few German Zombies. I have been thinking about adding them to the unit too.

Admitted they look a bit to intelligent for my liking (i.e. using the guns, rather than clubbing things with them). But quite nice sculpts.

I have made some. I started with a full box of the germans (left overs from my squads) and a full box of the Zombies. I dont have any photos, but i found the zombies in suits i just painted as wearing suits (they had those in WW2 right??) i then assembled some in the ripped shirts and pants and put a German officers cap on his head so he looks like an officer with his jacket off. Then some zombie torsos on German legs and vice-versa to just fill them out. The zombie arms are what you need the most of as the German arms are all built for carrying weapons. As an extra tip, I took some unsuitable limbs from both kits and did battle damaged limbs on some of my zombies with half an arm or leg blown off to remove the gun hand or just make a bit more variety.
I hope this helps and i will try to post some pics soon.

Reaper minis are usually taller ~32mm, so the Mantic arms will probably look good on those.
Liked the Brigade Games minis too. Haven't seen them before.

I like the concept of nazi zombies. Two types of evil combined must make them super evil!

I had a look at the West Wind SoTR German Zeds today. They look very nice, and the fact that they do German Zeds heads separately is quite useful...

Just got the guys in a few days ago.
So seeing this thread is a help.
I was surprised that the Warlord German bodies were all one piece.
The Mantic bodies are two pieces, which I like alot more.
Plan to cut the German bodies in half and mate different parts.
Think they will turn out alright.

I usually paint a zombie horde set of West Wind zombies each month ( 20 figs ) so I'm pretty used to those guys. They're decent enough but some of the detail is a little unclear, such as arms blending into sleeves so there's no distinct edges. And the hands often tend to be a bit....er....blobby.

I might break from tradition and be tempted to branch out into plastic if you get some good results from the Mantic Zeds. Please let us know how you get on ironmammoth.  :)

I put around 7 zombies together last night. I will finish the rest and then do a bit of greenstuff work.

Then I will photograph them...

The west wind zombies are nice, with the separate head system you can make several versions with the duplicate bodies.
Zombies you can outrun - the mistakes of your fellow Heroes you cannot.

OK, I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.

Taking the Mantic/Warlord set (supposed to make up 10 figures) and adding in the free sprue that came with the recent Miniature Wargames Scifi special (2 Mantic ghouls), I have managed to put together 19 zombies.

A couple are fairly generic, as in not wearing german uniforms, but with added extras, the odd helmet, or other kit hanging from belts extra, I have managed to get them all fitting in the theme.

I will start some greenstuff work on them next. Then once I am happy with them I post a few photos...

I have finished these Zombies now.

As they are most decidedly Weird War I posted the photo over in that thread, so have a look:-
