WWII FOAMCORE BUILDINGS
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:52:35 AM »
I'm painting WWII Artizan Design miniatures Soviets, Germans and a few Us.
Since I'm going to play a few figures skirmish I need to built some Houses and Buildings in FOAMCORE.
I'd like to build some in good conditions with removable roofs and some without, these lasts will be heavy damaged with open walls to move miniatures.

Can someone suggest me the sizes of doors, windows and ceiling height with a good compromise between aesthetical result of the scale and playability. Miniatures are AD with 3mm round base (still TBD if 20 or 25 wide).

Have a look at paper models.
Microtactix has some free buildings sample in heroics scale :
Horseman's deli's & Stinky's Pizza & Drake's radio & TV
Not the time setting you want, but it gives you an idea of the size of doors & windows.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Here's the ground floor of my latest project:

I sized my window openings to match some prefab plastic windows from Antenociti: http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/masonry-window-6-lt.html

My windows are 14mm x 24mm and they sit 15mm up on the walls, placing them 20mm above the base or 23mm above the table, counting the floor and base respectively.

The doorways are 23mm x 45mm.
I'll need to modify the doors some, though. They look out of scale without a small stairway of some kind on the outside.

My walls are 50mm high, making each floor 55mm high when you add the floor thickness.

I can thoroughly recommend Matakishi's treatise on the use of cork to build stuff with. In your case just use foamcore instead of cork:
