Re-paint of a Pre-paint - Reaper's Great Worm
« on: 20 December 2011, 03:58:12 AM »
Just a quickie before the holiday today - a re-paint of a pre-paint, Reaper's Legendary Encounters Great Worm. I mounted this on a 60mm base and built up its "entry hole" with slate pebbles and gravel. Then I re-painted the main body, focusing on eliminating the out-of-place silver highlights between the upper and lower torso, and finishing with a reddish-pink mouth and brighter teeth.

A quick drybrush over the pebbles and gravel to bring out the highlights and a purple wash and its done. Disgusting!

Nice work, I've never really been a fan of the idea of re-painting pre-paints. Generally the metal minis are so much nicer that if you're going to go to the effort of stripping and repainting you may as well start from scratch.
Having said that, you've done some bloody nice work with this one :)

Thanks and I must say I feel the same.

However, this was the work of literally 2 hours from start to finish and it cost $7 vs. $20+ for the metal version.

It looks far better than the original, nice work!

Just got myself one of these yesterday. At the price Reaper charge for their pre-paints, I can build up adversaries pretty cheaply.

I have to admit I've got a pait of the D&D pre-paint purple worms sitting undercoated on my work bench for the exact same reason ;)

Nice work!
 :-*

I keep seeing great repaints on these D&D minis and still forget to check out the range.
If I see many more great takes like this I may remember now...... ;)
